Crosman QC boxed pellets

Sat down last night weighed, and sorted a new box of 7.9 pellets. 10% at 8.1 gn, 10% at 7.8 gn, 40% at 7.9 gr, 40% at 8.0 gr. In the process of sorting I found about 80 hollow points, also had to throw away 80 to 90 with crushed skirts. Still have 1 more box to sort out. If this box turns out the same, it will be quite some time before I purchase crosman pellets again.

 i quit buyin boxed pellets for that reason heck the cheep tins at walmart dont have as many messy pellets as the boxed 1's do now days and look at the price too

I haven't found a weapon that will shoot them Accurate yet! Been afraid to shell out the big bucks for a box of them yet! The ones in the Tin at Wally World has about weened me!

Yes I realize that you can get a bad tin now and again. The crosman boxes are suppose to be from the same die. Hollow point and domed can't come from the same die. These looked like they were scraped off the floor, and put in a box.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'd e-mail or call Crosman and give em a heads up. Always possible someone is slacking in production and needs a nudge.

Contact Crosman and tell them you found some hollows in your Boxed Premiers.  I bet they'll send you a new box.

+1 on calling Crosman.  I used to shoot almost nothing but 10.5 premiers from the tin (ultra magnums) and never had any such experience.  I bet they will make it right.  I can't believe they got Hollowpoints in that box!!!

I measured a box of the heavies.  Got a big spread but most fall into the 10.4-10.5 range.  Which is fine.  The weight shouldn't effect anything too much,  it's the head size that will get ya. 

One problem with the box I measured though.....only 1157 pellets.  Where are my other 93??


Also measured a tin of JSB 8.4.  Spreads were just as bad.  Not like Crosman is the only one here. 

Like I said, weight has less to do with inaccuracy than head size.....but that might just be in my rifles

tyler, i think at range weight comes more into play.. at closer range the short distance allows for a bit of flexability in weight.the closer you are the more the weight can vary and still shoot very good groups. at least thats what i think about the subject and odds are im wrong..

but yes CROSMAN needs to step up its quality in the pellet department.. imagine if you would, going to walmart and getting a tin of premier domed pellets that on par with the quality of jsb pellets. mind boggling isnt it

I can say this much from reading and talking with folks who have shot really amazing groups out to 100 yards, they have found that the biggest factor in accuracy at long range has been head size.   While obviously shooting a 10.7 grain pellet will be different than shooting a 10.2 grain pellet, When most pellets in a tin or box are within a tenth of a grain of one another, you are not going to see a difference.  Except at the extremes of course.  But when you fire four pellets that are 4.52mm and then one that is 4.49mm, you can bet your butt you are going to see that. 

I can say from using CPH's in my Steyr that when a pellet goes in loose, I know to fire it into the dirt.  Even as close as 20 yards I have seen those fly on me.  Over the chrony, the loose ones go a solid 20-30 fps faster.  Outside of the loose ones, I'd never see a velocity difference just on weight.  At least not enough of a difference to think something was up. 

The Crosman in the box are far superior to those in the tin.  I found that about one in every 20 loaded loose for me out of the box.  Out of the tin, I can only imagine it would be one in ten or worse. 

And just to note, the Steyr is not the first gun I have noticed that in.  I had an RWS 48 a few years ago that did the same thing.  Anytime a pellet went in loose, it was a &^^& shoot as to where it was going.  Every gun is different of course.

I have begun sorting the pellets for head size that I just finished weighing.  You all can expect my full report when I have had some time to see just how much weight and head size play into the accuracy equation.

Update on bad box of pellets. Called crosman today, they are sending a replacement box. Great dealing with a company who stand by their products.

Must've been the last box of the day.  I can see how that went- "Hey dude I thought you were going to scoop that up"  "No, I thought you had the dust pan" "Well, I already took the trash out" "I'll jjst put them in this empty box and dump them out in the morning" Next day rolls around, forgot about the box of pellets and dust scraped off the floor..
