Mud Pup ... ( Marauder Unitized Design )

Where to start ? ....
General idea that had been going round and round many many months now in my head. With no "Promised" m-rod bull pup kits actually making it into the market for purchase, finally broke down and designed my own after following snippets of information taken from AG message boards around the globe.

Started off going with the basic design as too being "DROP IN" as practical while staying K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid !
Chassis holding the M-rods air tube 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" Aluminum U channel machined so trigger block and air gauge passed threw, trigger block bottoms out and a single 1/4-20 screw locks the two together.

From there we needed a mid chassis trigger/pistol grip and just so happened to have the ideal part. Paintball gun trigger frame an AGD Automag ( Air Gun Designs * Tom who's the same man now building Shoebox compressors ) Trigger is a straight push back design that allowed a very simple wire rod linkage back to factory trigger block. Little bit of machine work building some nifty pivot/knuckle for trigger blade and it's done.

Next some prototype mockup to see what were options for a stock/fore end etc ... Used more paintball gun parts to figure out what I did NOT want

Was out in the shop looking over some nice wood boards ( Had some Mahogany, some Hemlock, some Walnut and some Pine )
So ... tracing on some paper what was required for linkage clearances and basic physical size wanted started cutting on 3 Walnut 3/4" X 10" planks. Laminated the 3 boards so the middle board would have the clearance space at butt stock. Once dried over to the table saw and squared things up while also WIDENING the gap the C channel would lay into. This done by running stock blank up against the fence and slowly widening the gap cutting each side until the 1 1/2" C channel "Just Fit"
Then over to the band saw cutting away all the slag wood to get near a basic shape. That done some more table saw cuts getting the long flat Fore end. Next the belt sander spending time smoothing and profiling butt stock area. Over to the milling machine ( Yea cut wood on it too

) and stock get trigger group cut out, gauge hole and Finger grip contours of Fore end.

Next Hemlock wood caps to dress it up and cover the C channel ends. 4 screws threw side of stock secures the channel to wood connection. Otherwise the ENTIRE guns action withing C channel would just float being the Wood is just a pretty shell over the metal.

*** Have my design for the scope mount rails figured out but waiting on a 12" Piccatiny/weaver rail blank ... So "To Be Continued"

Whats shown does assemble into a Bull pup in just minuets after being taken from an otherwise stock Marauder ... So K.I.S.S was achievable I believe

Little more tonight ...
.065" deep x .750" wide relief cuts made for the scope saddle support tails.
Am securing 4 ea .063" thick tabs built from 7075-T6 then JB weld epoxied into slots that will act as anchors tabs for the yet to be built scope rail saddle pieces X 2

Also put final seal coat on stock, wet sanded and paste waxed to a furniture grade finish.
Installed butt pad ( Take off from OEM stock )

Spent the day out in shop on the milling machine. Set out to manufacture the billet scope towers for the tabs set last night.
So a few pics of the days work ... one BIG mount machined at once then cut into 2 piece on band saw, re-machine the cut side to correct width.

Set a Picitinny /weaver rail on top and we got us a chassis mounted scope

Afternoon of shooting and all is well, still stacks pellets as before.
Mixed review tho on comfort, standing, kneeling, and positions where you can let your elbow down it's fit far superior to a conventional stock.
Need to rest it across something for support or get an awkward holding angle your wrist gets tweaked out of shape and then stock is not very comfortable at all.

One thing for sure tho, carrying and being quick to raise getting a sight picture and a shot off Fast, a bull pup certainly excels there !!
Got the pistol grip to stock support strut attached and bit of fine tuning done.

Scope replaced with a Leapers Accu-shot SWAT 30mm 3x12x44 Compact.
Using a some rubber grip material for a lawnmower handlebar .... placed some Velcro against receiver and some inside the pad making up a nice easy on/off semi firm cheek weld pad for top/side of receiver.
Put the barrel band back in place to keep flashlight from moving barrel shroud if contacted ( yea already had an issue with that )
Added a full ring of rubber grip around air gauge to clean up the fit/finish there.

You will need to scrounge up a trigger blade however being whats shown does not include one.
