Any reasonable way to make Benjamin 342 neighborhood friendly?

I just pulled out my Benjamin 342 from 10 years of storage. I bought it 30 years ago with my birthday money when I was 12. Still works like a charm and the accuracy is great. My 12 year old son just bought a Crosman Phantom with his birthday money and I wanted something to shoot until I can afford a .25 cal. Marauder. My problem is that it is too loud to comfortably shoot with regularity in my neighborhood. Are there any inexpensive ways to quiet it down? I only need a short term solution so it can be a bit "hokey" as long as it works. I realize the gun design make attaching anything at the muzzle a challenge.

Easy. Don't slam it shut when you pump.

Try shooting with only 3 pumps. It should be quiet enough for backyard plinking.

My subdivision is carved out of a heavily wooded area. Mostly oak trees. I have chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, and crows within 20-40 yards on a daily basis so I require full power. The only solution I can find is a LDC from Indonesia but details are sketchy and you have to wire payment. That won't cut it. It looks pretty good though. It attaches over the front sight. No real pretty but it is the only real viable method of attachment.

You may think that Richard (amb5000c) is joking!!..... I live in a rural 'Firearms Friendly' area. My closest neighbor is about 200 yards away and tells me he can hear it when I pump my guns......
Do you have a link to information in Indonesia? I would be very interested in seeing their design... It is kind of hard to believe that there would be enough Benjamins and Sheridans on the other side of the world to make manufacturing these parts cost effective. I have seen a photo of one before but did not look secure at all..
While brainstorming with members of the GTA and Yellow Forums I came up with this 'Front Globe Sight Mount"...
It was just an idea and I only have the one I made for myself. Using the same principles I know once I pick up my machine tools that I can make a very sanitary and compact version from round stock.... I have been shopping for a lathe and a milling machine for months, no success yet! Greg

The solution to your problems is unfortunately to save up for a rifle with a built-in factory "brake" or shroud. This keeps you from having legal issues and it also will quiet the airgun down to a reasonable level. As a bonus, you'll be quieter and quite a bit more powerful.
Consider the idiocy where that lady was tazered for buying too many iPhones. Our society has become full of people with over-the-top responses to the smallest and most inoffensive things. It's completely out of control as our society has become full of paranoid panicked people.
Your neighbor might be one of them. Your local police probably are already. It's just not worth the problems or potential headaches of buying something from overseas and going the DIY route.

Tim at Mac1 is working on mounting one of his Gen 2 brakes to 342's. It's on his backburner, but if more people express interest he might start working on it more.

there is a fellow on the northwest coastal area...neil clague..... he is awesome. he can make a good muzzle device for most anything. i challenged him to make one for my crosman ssp250 pistol - and he greatly exceeded my expections. you can search for him on the other (light colored) forum. i did recommend the find a way to made a quietening appendage for the sheridan pumpers. we discussed removing the pins that hold the end cap and pump arm into the tube under the barrels (of both benji's and dans) - then making an extension there w/ 5" shroud. it can be done. i am shocked that no one has marketed one as of yet. the guys in indonesia really do know their about pumpers. i was dealing w/ a guy named yudi there to get the sharp dragons here. if you'll email me directly at ranedouglas@yahoo.com , you will see the collection he has in an email he sent to me. even has sharp ace pistols.

+1 for Neil Clague. I've purchased two accessories from him, both are outstanding quality and performance. Excellent to work with.

The biggest obstacle to overcome is being able to securely mount AND ALIGN the device so as not to 'clip' pellets on the way out.... I have addressed the problem and some good ideas to address the issue.... Greg

No matter which way you address the problem, You would do well to check with your local PD. Many state and local govt's. allow for the safe use of pellet guns on your own property (even NJ...go figure!) as long as the rounds are safely contained on your property. Then I would go to the neighbors to inform (educate) them about what they are going to start hearing. That said, I have never been questioned by anyone when using my Sheridans with only 3-4 pumps( sounds more like an unusual"Burp"); and that's plenty of power for a bit of pest control with these rifles.

+1 to the above statement. may not need to "sneak" around. you may be well within your own rights to shoot safely on your property. and maybe not. shouldnt hurt to ask though.
either way good luck with the crows. lol
