Most Efficient Pellet For A Stock Disco

Hi guys,I'm a-little behind the times here,and don't own a chrony yet,so I must rely on experience of others here.I know... I know,get with the program guy!... ::)Anyhoo,what have you guys found to be the best pellet weight for use in a stock Disco power plant.I'm looking to extract the best combination of FPE,and accuracy at distance....thanks

You didn't give enough info.What cal? You also know that a high fpe that will not hit where aimed is usless.I will say this, test and find the pellet YOUR rifle likes and use it, because in the end the critter you shoot will not care if hit with 16 or 22 fpe.
Mine when it was .177 cal was making 16.8 fpe with 10.5 gr.Crosman, about 30 shots before refill
After changing to .22 cal 22.9 fpe with 14.3 pellets. about 18 good shots before refill.
Those numbers are for a stock disco.

I agree with Gary,, go with the best pellet that your rifle shoots the best as accuracy is just as important, if not more so, than power.  That being said, my pellet suggestions for both .22 and .177 would be CPL's, CPHP's Beeman FTS and JSB domes.  I usually find that one of those pellets fly well out of my shooters.

Good morning gentlemen,and thanks for the responses.Now that I've had my Java,and my brain is firing on all cylinders,I realize I asked a pretty open ended question here.I'm set up to shoot .22 cal at the moment,as I converted my .177.I enjoy both but mostly .22...especially for critters.I realize that every gun is going to be slightly different in what it likes.That being said....I think the solution is to get a chrony,printer,and download software such as Chairgun when cash flow permits.

I now realize it's the only way to know whats going on with my air guns.So far I really like Crow mags out to 35 yards or so,as groups open up after that."They sure pack a wallop on the critters".I'm sure that's the pellet,and not the gun.I have good success with the Crosman Field/Hunting pellet at distances after that.I guess I was just looking for some combined experience on what guys like in their Discos...even though that question may have been answered in a previous post somewhere....thanks guys.

Mine likes Kodiaks/Barracudas and Predators ( it does have the TKO power adjuster)

Each barrel has something it likes, and many pellets it doesn’t care for.  Got to test everything that you have at first, then keep narrowing down the good from the not-so-good, and just live with whatever your barrel tells you it wants to shoot.


Just a plain-jane looking Discovery. Has had some work in lightening the striker, finging the right spring tension, and inletting that rear barrel band, but it's still a plain looking work-hose type rifle:



Usually make graphs keeping track of the adjustments.  Basically, with a Discovery, the faster you get it to shoot, the fewer good shots per fill.  Can be as exacting as you care to,  or as casual, idea being to get a good handle on how the balance or power – fill pressure-shot count works out.


The graphs aren’t just fooling around. There is a relationship between vel. and point of impact, and even at short range,  can see that in this set of targets.  They graph pretty well predicts POI:


This is probably 1/10th the groups on file.  Most of my initial testing is done at 20yards.  That’s NOT enough range to sort out the great from the good, but it is enough range to sort out the bad.








So far, only these two have made the final cut. Would have been nice for it to shoot cheaper/locally available CP’s, but the barrel has the final say-so.

Maybe this will help.

Whenever I try out a new .22 (after it's been checked over/cleaned) will get out 4 tins of pellets to test first.
JSB Exacts
Super Domes
CP's
Kodiaks


If it's a slow to moderate power gun, might leave out the Kodiaks and get out either RWS or H&N match pellets.


IF NONE of those shoot well, then will start looking for mechanical reasons why.
