Benjamin Super Streak .177...good rifle?
«

I might get one with the birthday money for $180.00, and I am wondering if it is an accurate rifle with the right shooter. Also, is it rare, or quite frequent to get bad seals in this rifle from the factory? It is really making me drool with its 4-16 scope, nickel finish, and 18-22 FPE out of the muzzle. Looks like an excellent gun for the money, but will I experience any trouble with the rifle from the factory?
Any input is appreciated,
Jman

Hey Jman, they are beasts. LOL
Heavy, long and take some juice to cock. Mine had a bad seal from the factory but still turned out 22+fpe. And VERY accurate. I bought a .22 barrel for mine and have both calibers now for it. I have since converted it to NP powered. I did not get a big enough gain to justify the cost though. I'd just tune it and shoot it. They make fine shooters and EXCELLENT hunters, in my opinion. And I paid almost 3 bills for mine so $180 is a darn good price.
Happy Shooting!!!!

I only worry about seals because I dont know how to replace them nor do I have a spring compressor. So if I get signs of a bad seal just send it back to crosman and they will replace it?

They would probably offer a few options. Since they no longer make the SS, they would most likely offer to trade you up to a different gun. You MAY convince them to let the gun go to an authorized Crosman service center for repair. Or, you can take the project on yourself by sending it to a trusted airgun smith or tuner. Seals and other parts are relatively cheap through Crosman but like you said, you DEFINITELY need a spring compressor before you crack this puppy open.

I had one Jman an it was a powerful an acc. gun, It developed a lock up problem after alittle while an I returned it to Crosman which in turn sent me an NP XL in exchange, sometime's I wish I had just fixed the problem myself an keep the gun as I really liked it alot.

Have a SS myself.Great power and its accurate but have not found a scope that works good with it. Iron sights after cleaning and tightening everything is right on the money. Just cant seem to get a scope to work good with it.

Is the Benjamin Trail XL a better rifle? I like the idea that I can take apart an XL without a spring compressor, but I cant do it with the Super Streak. I like the fact that the super streak is nickle and has open sights though.

Don't know if you can say BETTER. It is powered by a NP and not a spring so you can leave it cocked and not worry. You also do not have the problem of breaking a spring and therefore have a wider choice of ammo weights. And it does have the Weaver rail. It is quieter than most of my springers too. It has a sling to aid in carring this beast around in the woods.
Those are the pluses.
On the negitive side, they are a tad heavier, I think, and are definitely harder to cock. There are no iron sights.
So it's up the the shooter to decide which is better. I have both and love them both. They are true super magnums and nail drivers at 30+ yards.

My Super Streak is definatly more accurate than my NP XL, ...and I didn't even get a GRT III trigger on the SS
