any one know a place to go shoot air guns in nj? i do almost all of my shooting in upstate ny. but next week the cottage gets closed up for the winter. i cant shoot here in my yard and i hate the idea of not shooting till spring

i could join a local gun club for big bucks but i still can only shoot paper targets...not to exciting.

steve just move west where its gun friendly ,oklahoma is preparing for open carry next month. hows that for gun friendly?

Steve, I live in So. Jersey, places to shoot are few and far between. Most of our local ranges, don't even want air guns coming in the door. I take it you live in No. Jersey. I'm lucky I have plenty of room to shoot, as you can see in the pictures. As a member of GTA, any time you are in the area you are more then welcome to shoot here. Us Jersey guys are at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to any kind of firearms.

nice yard tom , i wonder how many of us are here from NJ, maybe if there were enough of us we could have a GTA jersey fun shoot..

From what i have seen, most of the jersey guys are from the northern part of the state. A shoot would be great. I see some members, from Penna. just across the river.

Wow, what a poor elitist attitude. I wouldn't even want to associate with anyone who was like that. Isn't there already enough of a divide between gun owners and gun control advocates that they have to go and create ANOTHER one?!!

I never ran into that. At a friends range I use to go to, the only thing they cared about was you didn't shoot any rifles over .22 cal. My airgun didn't even get looked at.

GungaDin, I think it has a lot to do with Ammo sales. Been to the range a lot of times, and run out of ammo. So you buy more at the range. A 500 tin in your pocket, and you don't spend any money.

We are fortunate down here. We go and shoot firearms and I shoot air guns as well on some private property by the Trinity River near Wilmer. I believe to get a membership it cost around $200. Yes it is kind of pricey, but you get to shoot anything you wan't down there.

What about not closing up the cottage?
I know Where I live in upstate NY
Deer season is here, Ice fishing, Snowmobiling ETC A nice cottage will work well for some R+R
Luckily Where I am here I can shoot a quiet gun in my yard. Go a mile around the corner and Im at my inlaws who have 2 acers plus 50 acers adjacent I can shoot all day.
I can ride my snowmobile out my garage and hit the trail in 300 yards and ride to the lake 3 miles away!

well, first of all, its a 5+ hour drive for me to get there and 2nd, ITS COLD UP THERE! we draw our water right out of the lake so we have to remove all those pipes or the ice will smash them up. plus the pipes inside the house will freeze.
i love upstate NY. i think its the greatest place in the east. but at -10 with no heat or water... not so much.

I live in Morris County, I've asked a few of the local cops about shooting AG's on my own property and they have all said it is legal as long as you are safe and all is contained on your own property OR have the neighbors permission to use his property as well. You might check to see if you have similar ordinances. I'm pretty lucky in that I can shoot whenever the mood is right. My property goes back 300' from the house, back 100' is woods and the neighbors don't care if I shoot at all and there's a 100' high wooded hill (spelled "berm") rising from the rear property line. I haven't checked to see what might be thought about hosting a fun shoot but have been thinking about it for spring as I just can't seem to be able to get to the one in N.C. as the 12 hour drive adds two days to the trip. Maybe when I retire... after winning the lottery!

Yeah call your county's wildlife commisioner. He/she will know more than the sheriff's office or police dept or DNR. At least here, in the middle of USA, he does anyways, lol.

If Mercer county is not too far of a ride, you may want to consider Citizens Rifle & Revolver Club, website is www.crrc.org. I was planning on going there a few months ago for an airgun shooting event but got too busy with kids. they appear to be airgun friendly.

I pretty much shot in my basement when i have some free time.
