Thinking about a NPSS

Hey Folks,

Havent been around for a while (work and family issues).  As some of you may remember I had a few issues with my Benji XL1500 and sent it back to Crosman.  They were out of stock, so I told them I would think about what I wanted.  For the last few weeks Ive been trying to come up with the extra funds to buy a Marauder, but that aint gonna happen.  Then I'd have to have a way to fill it.  Just too much to bite off right now....someday though.  I feel the Benji Trails are great guns but I guess I want something different

I think I have decided to get a NPSS in .22 (maybe .177.....maybe)

What are your opinions of the NPSS?  The only thing I really preferred on the trails was the Weaver mounts.  How does the scope mount on the NPSS hold up? any slippage??

Are these pretty good out of the box or is a tune recommended immediately?? 

How about accuracy, what are you getting?  and at what ranges??

Basically I just need some opinions of these guns

You may recall me writing a review on the NPSS. Over all opinions and tuning information. They are built like a tank Shawn. My .177 is very accurate and it was great out of the box. One of the issues that may arise is scuffig of the ram inside the piston. This was taken care of by deburing the inside of piston and a little polishing. Out side of that you may want to install the new trigger "CBR" blade that CDT come up with for the Crosman NPSS and Remington.

I really like my .22 NPSS. I have had it for a few months and it is now the gun I usually pick up to shoot. I can hit dime size groups at 30 yards and it has lots of power for hunting as well. It shoots H&N FTT's 780 FPS for over 19 FPE.

I also replaced the stock trigger with a CBR and it really makes it a pleasure to shoot.

Shawn, I have both the 22 & 177 NPSS - They have been very good shooters - smooth and accurate - You will want to get the CBR trigger - makes a big difference. I don't think you can miss with the NPSS guns.

So far I am very happy with mine, but only had a chance to put 200 shots or so through it. At this stage, it prefers FTS and (fortunately) CPHPs. I like shooting this gun, and it has been frustrating not to get out with it more.

Shot cycle is short and sweet, very solid. I did add the CBR and plan to do some adjusting this weekend. No scope slippage at all- did the usual degrease and blue loc-tite. I can feel the scuffing that Gene describes a little when cocking, and will address in due course, meaning when I get around to it.

It initially chronied around 735 using CPs (in .22), and I will try to get an update with some of the preferred pellets.

One ground squirrel to its credit so far, which was kind of an "accident" while sighting in. Really, if you're a ground squirrel, you should turn around the usual advice, and "ride AWAY from the sound of the guns".

The only thing I have even heard "bad" about them Shawn is the barrel bushing's an you got that covered Bro.,other than that a super well made AG.

Forgot to mention that the scope that comes with the NPSS is a good scope. You will have to clean and loctite the rails on the action and mount. It is a must to use a one piece mount on the 11mm rails. I set mine up with a 50 AO Hawk Scope with Weaver to Picnanany mount system though.

Thanks for the replies.  I think this is the way Im gonna go.  Probably .22 with the black stock. The XL1500 was way more gun than I needed.

Just wanted to update you all.  I called yesterday and decided on a NPSS with the black stock in .22.  I'll let you all know when I get it.
