QB-58 group

Very nice shooting with open sights. I certainly don't need another gun but was looking hard at that gun.

Could I possibly ask 2 favors whenever you have time. Could you measure that gun from end to end for me please?

Also could you rate the cocking force. The springers I currently own are a BSA Lightning, HW30s, TX200 and an R-9. If you own any of those could you compare the cocking force?

Looks like its a great gun, did you get it from Mike is it tuned? Looking to get one also would love to own a mike full tuned gun. Have bought on from Mike for my wife xs-12 it shoots great maybe one day get one for me.

I'll try to answer all the questions. I'm shooting CP's 7.9 gr. gun is 41.5 in long. cocking force is about the same as my short barrel 34. gun is just lube tuned. trigger is OK about the same as my XS25. if the tuna trigger will fit would definitly make it better. never shot a side cocker before kinda different but you get used to it fast. prolly be hard to scope, maybe offset mount and compact scope, to keep from covering the loading port. it is a little tricky to load, rear site sorta in the way

I've had one for a while and a standard scope and mount will work if the objective isn't too long.
A 4x Hawke and a 2-7 Beeman just barely went over the loading port and didn't cause any problems.
I tryed a 4x Bug Buster (mini scope) but it needed the offset mount because of eye relief. The CDX
trigger works but needs the special pin. ask when you order. It is a fun gun I like mine.

The Charlie Da Tuna website does not show a GRT III trigger for the QB 58 but I am almost sure it is the same as a TF58.

The trigger to use in the QB58 is the GRT. When properly installed, it is a huge improvement. I just took first place in the National Field Target Championships in the Hunter/Piston class using a modified TF58/QB58 that included a GRT trigger. The QB58 has a smaller diameter pin hole in the trigger blade. The GRT trigger only comes with the larger hole. So you will have to request the "fat pin" in order for the trigger blade to work. I was originally told that may be all that it needs, but in my experience you should also replace or modify the intermediate link.

On the left is the intermediate link that I used. It has a small radius cutout to clear the fat pin. The one on the right is the stock QB58 link. It has no cutout.


In the next picture you can see what happens when you use the wrong pin with the wrong intermediate link. The combination of skinny pin and link with a cutout on the left has too much sear engagement. The combination with the fat pin and the original QB58 link has insufficient sear engagement. Either condition will make it difficult to get a good adjustment, and the second combination can also be unsafe.


In this last picture, you see the correct combinations. The fat pin with the link that has a cutout. That will work with the GRT trigger. The other combination shows the QB58 link and skinny pin that is used with the original QB58 trigger blade.


By the way jusanothajoe, that was a good offhand group. I missed all of the offhand shots at the Championships. I'm just not that steady when standing.

I have been fiddling with the predecessor, a QB88. Has similar trigger, and I have installed a new 2 stage with a fat pin. Now looking at Scotchmo's intermediate lever mod and wondering if I need it on my 88, so
Scotchmo: is that an inch ruler in your pics, or what's the C/c distance of main hole to cL of pin groove ?

Thank you for the information on the QB58. This is on my list.  I like the idea of a fixed barrel side cocking rifle. To  see that it is being used successfully in FT only solidifies my desire to get one.

It is an inch caliper. The C/C distance to the notch is not critical. The depth of the notch should probably be the difference in pin diameters divided by 2.
