HW97 tune kit ?

I bought a HW97  177 cal  3 weeks ago and got to use it about 2 hrs and 150 shots before it started grinding.  Ripped the gun down only to find a gouge in the outer receiver tube and also quite a few scrapes and wear on the outside of the compression tube.  Well after 2 weeks of the Dealer getting now where with Weihrauch , I decided to send them a email with all the pictures and also cut and pasted a few sentences from their web page about quality and inspections before it leaves the factory.  Less then 12 hrs later I get a reply from Weihrauch saying they are going to send me a replacement system.  Just keep my stock and send the rest of the parts back to the Dealer. 

Well I think I will keep the parts until I receive my new parts and I will also be taking this new replacement apart before even shooting it.

Now to get to my question.  What do you guys think of the tune kits available.  I have read every post about Vortek and JM kits and it more or less seems to be a 50/50 split with a slight edge towards Vortek.  I was thinking about picking up a Vortek PG2 kit instead of the PG3 kit.  Is there enough benefit of the extra spring guide to make the extra $30 worth it if I went with the 3 guide kit. 

Also since some of you have had the kits installed for a while now what are you getting for FPS out of a HW97. If it is 800 plus with JSB 8.4gr I may leave it alone for a while.  Last one was only 770 fps.

I might shoot the 97 with the stock form just to see how it stackes up against the first one. I will also be ordering some piston seals from Vortek . Seems like a lot of people use them over factory seals. 

I also have my own lathe and I was thinking about making a tophat for the stock 97 spring but I am not sure if I would need to clip a coil or if there is enough room in the cocking stroke to accept a tophat with the stock spring and guide.

I have Vorteks 2g in a HW97 20 Cal and one in the HW77 20 cal with a long barrel.  I am quite happy with his 2G kits.  He also has a PG2 kit.  His 2G kit comes with a seal that normally goes for about 14 bucks so the 2G kit is a bargain at the price

If you put in order notes that you want some Moly he usually has some he will include with the kit in a small container.  They have breech seals for the 97 and extra piston seals....I am pretty sure he does not make any seals to fit PCP rifles.  If it is standard size oring note the size he might have some

I like the 2g Kit in both my rifles.  They are easier to install that the PG2 3 guide system on the HWs.  I have his PG2 3 guide system in some Dianas and the 2G is so close in feel to me.  Both kits work well and the 2G is so much better than the stock rifles setup I think the 2G will work for you unless you are the most discriminating hobbist and want every bit of performance you can get no matter how small

I don't have a PCP rifle.  The Theoben Crusader is a gas ram break barrel, nice gun but very pricey..  One model down from the Theoben Eliminator which is even more.

I have pretty much made up my mind on the Vortek kits.  Lots of guys in Canada are telling me to get a JM kit .  They both seem good and I feel like giving the Vortek 2G a try.  Gun is mostly used for target shooting in the back yard and smacking pigeon at some grain elevators I work at.   Took out 26 the other day with the Crusader in 22cal.  Good form of stress relief while waiting for my Weihrauch replacement parts.

After about 200 pellets in the stock HW97K I dropped in a Vortek PG2 18+ kit and have never been happier!  Definitely feels like warm butter and the slight "twang" the gun had was totally replaced with a thud/whack!  The whack being the steel plates the pellets smack!!

18 fps ES

FPE- 16.11

Pellet used: Beeman FTS Copper Plated 14.72 grain for this .22 caliber German Beast!

Pre-tune #'s:

694.65 fps/avg.
18.76 fps ES
Low-685.75
High-704.51
FPE- 15.77

So as you can see, made the gun close to stock but with a tad more ummmmph!
