My First Tune Job

I just completed my first tune on my old B3. Never really had to guts to rip it apart for fear i would lose something like a small pin or spring. After taking the stock off it was evident that this thing had been places to say the least. Old briars, cat hair, and the spideys had made their home down in the stock after about 13 years of me lugging it around when I was a kid in the old orchard. Other than that the gun was pretty clean not much rust or anything of that nature was found skipping cleanup time on this part. After the trigger pins fell out and the sear spring which had been broken for sometime now all came out at the same time i knew i was in for it because i didnt look to see how they were assembled before it came crashing to the table. Looked up a parts diagram and figured out how to put it back together after that so no worries. Used my DIY spring compressor to release the spring of its pressure and then proceeded to remove the piston.Found that I had a old dried up leather seal. I followed the tuning guide i found online  to revive it using Neatsfoot oil or vegetable oil and a larger washer to widen the diameter for better sealing. When i was finished messing with seal i focused on cleaning all parts of the compression chamber with alcohol. Then went to the autoparts to find a brake hone which i have never used or heard of before getting on this site and thats crazy since i have 3 hotrods  69 nova, 65 chevy II, and 52 pickup none of which I have ever had to hone a cylinder. Anyways picked one up all they had was the two blade hone so i took it and started the honing process using a little soapy warm water. After honing i cleaned everything out with alchol and relubed the chamber with the moly supplied from ARH. Before installing the piston into the gun i decided to add a bit of preload using some nylon washers and pennies as weight and lubed them all with moly. Sanded  the spring ends and molyed the plastic spring guide as well as the spring ends followed by light stringing of heavy tar on the spring. Reinstalled the spring using my compressor. Put a dab a moly on the cocking lever in contact point and i was done with that part.
 The guide I had called for the bedliner treatment to the stock which i liked but decided that alot of people do it and it could be a pain to remove so i just removed the orange factory paint by hand which took me about 5 hrs because i didnt use a stripper(NEVER WILL I MAKE THAT MISTAKE). When the stock was down to bare wood i decided i wanted to go with a lighter stain so i picked up some golden oak from the hardware store and applied a couple coats of that. I didnt want the stock to shiny and slick so i opted out of using tru-oil for some polyurethane. Also I made a muzzle brake of my own design improving on ones i viewed on youtube and in the tuning guide but wont go in to detail about that since its forbidden here . BTW the gun shoots one ragged hole at 20yds using cheap gamo hunters and is not hold sensitive at all. I dont have a chrony but this thing is shooting way harder than before because it penetrating targets it usually didnt and its so quiet it scares me. I think I'll take out to the woods this year a couple times and get some more pelts under it belt

Congrats!!  I lube and tune all my springers, pistol and rifle, and find the work enjoyable.  Once the cold weather gets here, I plan to refinish a stock and iron out the little dings. RC

You can go full size with photobucket.  When on pb you place the curser finger on the pic, 4 different links will show.  Click on 'IMG code' of the bottom link and it should display "copied".  When back to your post, press 'control+V', and the link should be displayed, but not the pic until you post it.  Good luck, RC

NICE job!!

Congrats.

The China guns are THE BEST to learn to tune on, IMO.

Next, get yerself a Ruger Blackhawk, or one of Mikes B-25 in .22....hes running a special on them right now.
they are easy to tune, accurate, and have power to spare.

Very addicting, once you get started.

Thanks for the support guys and I think I'll try the TF99P next but it shoots lights out bone stock so I don't want to mess with it. Ya know if its not broke don't fix it!! I'm skeptical tho lol...I'm thinking if it's not perfect make it perfect right now but I better not get to big headed!!

Thats some very nice work on the B3, love the stock.   I have a couple of stocks I plan to redo this winter also (TF89 .22 and a B26 .22 from Mike Mellick).

That is the first "B-#" type I've seen that looks as if it is exactly like the one I have.....most have a metal trigger guard, but that one looks plastic like mine. Mine is .177 and out to 25yds shoots very very well for the price! ($5)

$5 is a deal for sure. Mine is .177 but it has the metal trigger guard... I 've never seen one anywhere that was plastic that's odd to me at least and I have seen dozens!
