Hi guys,

Thought someone might be interested in seeing how I made my spring compressor. Was about $40 in parts.

After a trip to the tool store for a 8" G-clamp and a pipe clamp, I ended up with this:

Between the 5 sets of holes for the pipe clamp, and the possibility to rotate it 180, I have 8" of adjustment in the clamp and 8" of travel in the G-clamp:

Pipe clamp comes with a flip top lid:

Still need to replace the 3 black clamping plates with nylon, currently they are steel so I used a cloth to prevent scratches:

This Gamo only had about 1" of preload on the spring. So I guess my 8" of travel should be ok.

Now I have bits everywhere. In hindsight I would have set up the centre line of the clamp further back so I have some more bench space to put the bits when they come out. Also a little tray at the front for tools and the small parts so they don't roll away.

So now I just need to wait for my moly and tar to arrive.

That is a clever setup. Be careful though relying on the clamp to hold the tube locked in place as you can easily crush it out of round. Most folks use some sort of stop that the breech block or receiver end can butt up to to provide a way to keep the reciever from sliding forward when a lot of pressure is applied to the main spring assembly like with a magnum springer. That way you can just snug the center clamp without having to use a lot of pressure to lock the tube in place.

@paul68 : thanks for the comment. Though about it, might make some mods. For the Gamo I took apart, I used very low amount of grip. My Diana 350 might be a different story....

The photos were probably in a photobucket account and since deleted or dicscontinued. Check the GTA library for spring compressor tips and photos.
