Crosman .22 destroyer vs raw meat

im putting this in the hunting gate because the pics have some blood in them so i didnt want to inadvertently gross anybody out in some other gate.

i did this test to see what a crosman destroyer will do on ACTUAL meat instead of just shooting at a block of soap or duct seal like so many others do. it's not realistic so i grabbed a couple pieces of meat that were in the freezer for way too long and set them up in front of a bag of water to catch the pellet (for  the pork chop i used two small bags of water and the steak i used a single gallon sized bag)

each piece of meat is 1 inch thick. i shot the pork chop first and here the results. the piece on the left is the entrance hole and on the right is the exit hole


DESTRUCTION!  only going a little over 600 fps the .22 destroyer seems to expand immediately upon impact. it exploded out the back and penetrated through the first bag of water (about 5 inches) and stopped inside the second bag behind it. the pellet on the right is the expansion it got


heres the steak:

what you are looking at here is the exit hole on the FIRST piece of meat! the piece behind it doesnt show much because there was a split there already and the pellet just sorta went right through it. but still, these pellets are devastating within the first inch or two. the pellet also expanded more on the red meat compared to the pork, im thinking because its denser

i did some accuracy testing after all of that just cuz i knew you guys would ask but it was kinda windy so i can't say for sure how well they shoot out past 30 yards but at 50 feet i was getting a nice sub inch group with a few fliers i couldnt tell if it was the wind, me, or the pellet.

im going to go out right now since its still early and theres no wind to try again..

If you have more meat to get rid of, consider the same test on other brands of pellets. It would be a neat comparison.
You could even use the same meat, just shoot it in a different spot. It looks like there's room on the steaks.

Was this at point blank range?  That is a decent representation of the capabilities of the Destroyer pellet.  That's some pretty good expansion at only just over 600fps.

If it were me I would also shoot at the meat down range at distances I normally shoot at, to see more real-life results when a couple of FPE have been expended after traveling the distance.  This also does not account for the hide/skin or going through bone like in the skull where we normally shoot critters with air guns.

Actually, I was thinking about testing pellet expansion through chicken wings and breasts, specifically to do the same thing. But I'd like some confirmation of my theory of shooting pigeons through the "shoulder" into the upper body cavity as a generally large target-high knock-down-high kill rate shot.

Haven't done it, as I'm now just shooting them in the head with a more accurate gun and scope, but it's still worth knowing.

They really do transfer a lot of energy to the target but, they will not shoot with acceptable accuracy out of any of my rifles in 22 or 25 cal.

i plan on someday ordering all the different kinds of hollowpoints and testing them like this. once i get my .22 pumper working again i'll be able to vary the amount of power easily and test them each at 3, 6, 9, and 12 FPE. i'll probably use CPHP as a control to compare the rest to since they are available everywhere

Hey ogre was that shot through the jaw/neck? When I used to shoot the .177 destroyers in my air hawk they would pass through small/medium nutters with lung shots.

Yup! I didn't take a closer pic but it took it clean off. He was quartered to me when I shot and he was a little farther away than I guessed.

Yup. They are my "go to" pellets for short range pest control. A hit anchors them on the spot!
