Hey folks, Im new here... My dad passed and left me a few guns including a GECO mod 27 .177
It really is a beautiful rifle in excellent condition. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Could you recommend a scope thats in line with its capabilities?

Congratulations. Your gun is the very desirable Diana model 27, one of the nicest of the pre-magnum springers. Diana has had various distrubutors, RWS, Geco, Gecado, Condor, and a few others. If you look at the compression tube (housing the main spring) on the left just above the trigger, you might see two sets of tiny numbers for mm yy. That would be a later model 27. If no numbers and a rounded or "bag" grip, you might have an earlier gun. I believe all 27's have leather piston seals. You will need to add a couple drops of pure silicone oil (or RWS chamber lube, same thing) through the transfer port (where the air comes out opposite the barrel) and stand it on the butt for a day or two to let it soak in. Also, if you have a flat-looking breech seal (where the pellet goes) it's probably leather, as well. That can benefit from a drop of silicone oil, as well. Not a lot, just drops.
Now, post some pictures over on the Vintage Gate, where I moderate - that's an order!
For good info on your gun, search on the American Vintage Airgun forum -

There is a long current thread just about the 27 right now.

Hello fliflicker,
That's a wonderful looking Diana 27, I love it! I don't know where the Home Base for Geco guns was/is, but I think it's interesting that on the side of the barrel/breech on the outside, an "F" is stamped. This tells me the gun part, or maybe the whole piece was made in Germany and therefore meant to be used in Germany after 1970. I haven't seen many guns on this Forum with the "F" stamping.
The bluing looks wonderful, a very nice vintage Diana 27. Your father was aware of good quality.
Greetings from Germany.
