(update w/pic) PCP starter gun?

What would be a good pcp gun and fill sys to start out with to punch paper accurate to 50 yds? .22 cal. Can't use HAND PUMP.Looking at a $1000.00 for everything.

329-379 depending where bought and with a promo code or not it is the cheapest way to get into pcp's but the disco is known for being a tack driver that is low fill pressure of 2000psi vs 3000psi of other guns that dont come with any way to fill them

there are some catches tho, if noise is a problem you will need a tko ldc for it they are 44 shipped at www.tko22.com and a extra barrel band you can order from crosman or mellonair.com. most disco's love jsb 15.9 and 18.1gr pellets and at 50yrds with a good AO scope 1inch groups at 50yrds are fairly common for disco's and disco's can be mildly modified or hott rodd out

As Mike said, probably the best intro gun is the Disco.  If you can't use a hand pump, maybe you can get access to a scuba tank that can be filled to 3k.  Since the Disco is considered a low-pressure fill gun at 2k you would be able to use the scuba to good effect.  If there are other guns in your future that require 3k fills then an SCBA tank would be your best but most costly path before looking at a Shoebox compressor.

Do lots of searching on the forum on this subject.  There will be more info than you want to read!!  LOL!

I think Disco given what you stated about no pump.  Disco does not need more than 2000psi and you could get a 3k tank for cheap to fill.

not only is the disco the worlds bestest entry level pcp gun, the sky is the limit on what you can do with it. its so versatile i hope i spelled that correctly, neways the disco can sit there and shoot awesome targets all day and group 1in at 50yrds and even smaller groups when the worlds align in perfect unity but its also a fantastic hunter and for some people it can be transformed into a heavy hitting pcp carbine

Work backwards here.  You say $1000.00 is your budget.  And no pump.

OK, you need a scuba tank, used.  so figure about $120 or so for that.  Got a dive shop near you?  find out what you can get one for there or on Craig's list.

Next you need a yoke to hook up to the scuba tank.  Ballpark there is about $100 to $120....depends.

Now you have $760 (ballpark figure!) to spend on gun, pellets, scope if you want a scope.  You wanna think about a refurb or a used rifle?

There are some great deals on Marauders.   Great guns. Evanix Rainstorms are out there for less than the Rainstorm II.

The Eu Jin Sumatras are out there too for a powerful accurate repeater.

I agree if you want something more than a Disco that is maybe a repeater or something with a nice exotic wood stock and more refined.  But I have to say, you get alot for the money in a Disco from what I read.  I may have gotten a Disco but I wanted a .25 caliber and went with the Marauder and fact it is quiet.

Well, i spent a little over what the OP wants to spend but when i decided to go PCP i went all-in.  I purchased a Marauder .25 and an $80.00 UTG 4-16X AO IR scope.  Then i purchased the 4500PSI Shoebox compressor and a guppy tank to go with it. 

My investment is around $1500.00 but the more i use the Marauder and associated equipment, the more i'm glad i did it. 

I'll take out the springers every week or so just to compare them to the M-Rod but there is no comparison if you want easy, accurate shooting.  I set the M-Rod up on a bipod with a full fill and full clip on a table in my backyard and i'm ready to go at any time on a nice day.

The gun is just so easy to shoot, the trigger is excellent, and the accuracy is great.

What else could you ask for? 

The added bonus is if i want to purchase another PCP i have all the equipment to make it work. 

Even in .25 caliber the Marauder is more quiet than any of my springers except maybe the Hatsan Sniper .25 which emits a different type of "twang" as opposed to the "ping" on the M-Rod.

  The disco is light also. You might want to consider the weight as some pcp's can way 8-10 lbs. with a scope. You can get a disco and a shoebox compressor for around $800.00 - $900.00. You can get a tank that is close to being out of date for around $50.00 and just fill it yourself. That would just leave the hoses and adapters.

I see that you are in California.  Great.  Go to Sport Chalet and get a small pony tank for $100.   Go to the refill area in the scuba shop and see how they have a corporate policy of filling pony tanks for FREE.  This has been a policy of their for the last couple of decades and won't change any time soon.

Get a Marauder from from Mac 1 and have him put a match barrel on it for another $100 or so. Figure $850-900 after  a good scope, the pony tank and fittings/regulator.   It will be able to hammer anything out to 100 yards.

edit - the match barrel is highly recommended (essentially a must as far as I'm concerned).  Get the .22  if you don't want the .25.  But the .25 is so epic in this gun that you'll never regret getting the .25 for a few extra dollars.

edit 2 - I see that Mac 1 actually has the match barrels in stock and isn't suffering from a massive backlog like Greg is (5-6 months last I heard - not his fault, really), so Tim gets first mention/place.     He might say that you would do better with an Air Force Talon, though.  That's a sick gun after you customize it.

disco is a great shooter for sure, that being said if my limit was $1,000 I would most likly get a rainstorm and a tank or a condor

Why not take a good look at a 22 CZ200/AA S200?

They are not that expensive, generally more accurate, better fit, finish and overall quality.

Lots of accessories too and a genuine good rep here in Europe, where its a huge seller in most markets (its been around since 2001, a proven design).

the disco does have a toyish feel out of the box. but with a 2nd barrel band and even with out it the disco is known to be reaching tack driving levels and it comes with a means to fill it. im sure the cz has more going for it in accuracy and im not debating that. but dont count the disco out, in all honesty the disco was designed to be a entry level pcp that any person could afford to get into pcp's with. but what they made was a very very nice pcp hunter, hunting is where the disco shines...

Where did glassman98 go?  Is noise an issue since you don't have much extra in the budget for accessories? I am thinking P-Rod maybe again with the carbine stock.
