No i'm no airgun snob now :-)...however, i've got to say this is a sweet rifle. The finest rifle i!ve ever owned. Period. So it showed up this afternoon, "Airkrazy" or Mark, thanks for taking such good care of her till you sent it my way, I pulled a gun that looked new out of the box and wasted no time in checking it out closely. I can't ever trick myself concerning german quality, it's all here, deep beautiful blue, finely finished metal and fasteners, a sweet muzzlebreak and latch for holding the cocking lever. Even the beech stock, has nice figure and grain. I test fired and the trigger feels about a lb, its already well adjusted. The shot cycle is incredibly quick and has little vibration. I mounted a Hawke sport 3x9x40 and used tall bkl rings with a beeman scope stop. Not a forever setup but will work for the moment. Took 6 shots to sight in at an oddball 18yards, I used a shot to create a target, then fired 5 shots at it, touching every shot to creat one ragged hole. And that was with crosman ammo that fit the bore differently from shot to shot. Very very impressive! Ok, back to shooting :-)

JR you have a well made German piece there! Now you may know why I said I would never get another springer that was not German! They are the top of the food chain as far as I am concerned. Nice.......real nice! Now go shoot that thing like you stole her!

Thanks guys. Well I take it back. I've had chinese guns every bit the equal... Just kidding. :-). Theres no comparison. I just put about 100 shots down the pipe and I guess this will have to be considered a go-to gun as no matter if its the first shot or the last, and seemingly no matter how I hold it, everything lazers into the same place. I shot dandelions, rocks and put holes in leaves on command. Its like I can just reach out and touch stuff at will. Now at 45yards both predators and crosman ammo is hitting 2" right. Different pellets might help this or maybe something else is off by a tiny bit. Even so, I can reliably "dope" the shot and hit where I want. The most accurate and quality springer i've had. Hard to go back to something else..and I now see what drives guys to tune their seemingly perfect guns.. They've shot one of these... :-). So guys, where do you go from here? R-10 perhaps? Also, this rifle is marked as a Beeman(Huntington), are they still imported by the beeman name? J

Beeman imports the HW97. As far as favorite pellet, it is a hit and miss. I found Beeman FTT 14.72 Copper plated to be the favorite.

"So guys, where do you go from here?" Well Johnny, this opens a new door,.....or list of fine crafted Airguns you will want to shoot/own. I would suggest your next one be an old tried and true R1. If you can, pick up an old Santa Rosa vintage model when they pop up on the classifieds, and perhaps not even a pristine conditionned specimen,....dont matter,..you will still have something special, as well as a gun that is hard to put down and not shoot.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the reply tjk. I guess when u think about it I did have 2 other, older german guns. A beeman bearcub and a diana 27. Forgot about those two. I like the idea of a nice R1, good combination of power and size, the old build quality would be impressive. I do however remember what I had to put into those 2 older guns to make them shoot right, Rob Hawkins at "spring gun tunes" quit messing with english beemans because of me i'm afraid :-),. I'll be watching for santa rosas. **. In the meantime i'll keep sourcing the perfect 1" scope for the 97 and shooting what i've got. Shot more today and its so accurate as to be boring, for the first time with a springer I see the need for those 10 bull targets using a single shot per bull. This is as accurate as any of my pcp's.. Field trial seems interesting all of the sudden. I want a GTA shoot rematch against Richard... Btw, tried the 10.5 benji disco pellets and they fit tight as all crosmans i've tried have. Predators and jsb's are almost loose. Never noticed this so much with any other gun. All shoot fine, lighter pellets higher, heavy ones low. These barrels must be well choked? to preform so predictably. I wonder how much having an affixed barrel plays a role? Incredible gun. J

Hey mark, traded it with "airkrazy", he's on here but usually is on the 54 network forums. He said he got it from Randy Mitchell early this year. No telling where it came from, before that but everyone sure took good care of it.. Recognize it by chance? J

Jonny glad to see you back on the springers. It's hard to describe how well built and amazing these german guns shoot. Until you try it for yourself. Glad you did. Now I will trade the word snob for educated or enlightened. You might try some H&N pelets Ftt or Fts
Pyramyd has the diameter listed. My R9 loves the barracuda match. Have fun and once you find the right pellet 75 yds is no problem.

Hey thanks DJ and Goodland! Yes, educated or enlightened is a better term for sure, glad as well that I came back to springers as I now see that, once I was away from the magnums, recoil doesn't have to make a bit of a difference in performance and a springer really can shoot as accurately as a pcp, even more accurately. This HW is hands down more accurate than my disco, and at least equal to the mrod and talon ss, under 30 yards anyways. And thats figuring jsbs in all the pcp's and walmart cphp's in the HW. No telling what will happen when I find a "favorite" pellet for the guns. Guess i'll just not miss much:-). Will be trying some of these pellet suggestions, thanks! Jeff
