I had to build a new one for tearing down my 54. I already had a pipe clamp - decided to make a wood cradle to hold the gun and the clamp. The pipe clamp comes out quickly and easily when I'm done. I used it 7 times during my 54 rebuild,,,worked excellently.

I know this is a year old post. But Wanted to comment.
This is what I envisioned using when I learned the process. I wondered why I dont see more using it, seems a natural for the use. Any known problems with this setup?
Only thing I can see is if you have a lot of pre load on the spring this only offers about 5-6'' of compression. do many springers need more than this?

Interesting. I just used a 3/4" pipe clamp, no wooden cradle. A bit of wood to protect the front of the compression chamber, a piece of pipe cut to allow it to fit around the trigger assembly on the Daisy 120 and voilá! It had just enough travel to allow it to work. Used it on the Daisy 120 and the Haenel 300 Super. And yes, I'm surprised too that more folks don't use them. Of course, if you don't remove the barrel then you've got a loooong piece to try to work around and you might end up with problems if it decided to try to break open while compressing. But I pulled the barrels on both and the system worked fine. The Haenel was easier as there was no need to cut a pipe to work with it, just an appropriate sized dowel [broomstick] and it worked slick as a whistle.

I'm a peaceful man and prefer the pursuit of peaceful sports. Those involving teams and balls of any sort tend to be deleterious to one's body and promote violence by both spectators and participants. The shooting sports, however, tend to promote self control and are peaceably participated in by those who know that their greatest challenge is their need to continually hone their own abilities.

As you said, its been over a year since I've used it, and truthfully I can't remember much about it. I see now that I should have taken some pics with the gun in the compressor,,,would have been a whole lot more educational.
I have only compressed 5 springer guns and this compressor had enough preload threads to do the jobs. The only 'magnum' gun I worked on is the RWS 54 - I suppose its a magnum gun.
The only problem I had was the wooden pusher block which I had to cut to specifically fit the 54 which has only the lower half to actually push against, the upper half is curved and houses the safety toggle - no pressure can be on the upper half. It took me 3 times to get it right
I saw a picture of this style of compressor on the 'other' (yellow) forum and thought it was worth sharing here.
This is my third generation of compressors, each one becoming simpler, quicker to make and easier to use. This will probably be my final version. It works fantastically. I scavenged my older compressors for parts - they no longer exist.
