No more shooting in the swamp for me.

So after a great day of shooting yesterday me and a friend decided to test the 4 wheel drive in my new 2010 dodge 2500. Well there was alot of water still around from all the rain so we hit a nice puddle on the side of the road. Had a great time but this morning a couple of the neighbors were not happy. One of them lives close to the swamp me and my kids always shoot in. We have to walk past his house to get to the swamp. Well he was yelling about the mud and stuff then started yelling about me and my kids shooting in the swamp. So I need to do some research now on the laws here in my county. I cant wait to get my own land.

There's nuthin worse than havin a lunatic raving in front of the kids, let alone by yourself.  It turns a day into a bad thing.  Sorry that happened to ya.  I hope you do get your own land.  That would be the ultimate revenge.

Checked the laws and as long as I am not shooting within 400 feet of any buildings houses schools parks or about 3000 other things I am good. So my shooting lane back in the swamp is good. The one up front is closed. At least I got one. Will let that guy cool off a little and print the law so if he does freak out I'll have the paper work I need if he calls the cops.

On another note I'm watching sun night football and faith hill is smokin hot!

Whoa, there!  Back up the truck!  Your neighbors were complaining about all of the mud?  What did you do with the truck, swamp their front lawns with a load of muck?  Leave a trench along the side of the road?  How did you react to this fellow's complaint?  FWIW, printing off the law so you can wave it in his face might not be as effective as you think.  He calls the cops, they have to come out.  You spend the afternoon explaining to them that it's legal.  Not all cops know the laws pertaining to air guns, so it might take a while.  Not such a nice experience, all the way around.  Better to mend some fences since he hasn't complained before.

RedFeather has a point, he may have been waiting for something to B&%&h about because of something else thats been festering in his craw that you don't know about. Might be worth the hassle to go over and speak to him, at any rate, it's better to avoid getting on the police radar if possible.

As for the mud, the road into the neighborhood is flanked on both sides by the swamp. I pulled off into the ditch on the side that was full of mud and water and jumped on it a couple of times. Im not the first to do it but its definatly the last time I will do it. I already talked to the city board of roads member and cleaned up the mud and will redo the ditch when it dries out enough to fill it in. The nearest house is about 400 yards down the road. The guy was mad about me shooting was mad about everything thats been happening in the neighbor hood and I just took the brunt of all of it weather I was involved or not. He yelled at me about alot of stuff. I think he was stressed out and hungover. I talk to the guy a couple times a week with no problems. He uses my neighbors dock all the time so we shoot the breeze when I see him. 

When he was yelling it was alot of yes sir no sir im sorry sir your right sir. That seemed to wet him off more. Just one of those cant win situations.  Then he started yelling about all the other stuff. I was going to let him cool off for a while and then try to talk to him to smooth things out. Was going to print off the laws so when I do go back to shoot and if he does call the cops I would have it ready not to rub it in his face.

I have a good report with the neighbors on both sides and across the street. The ones that have problems are like this one that lives down the street. My neighbor to my left actually asked me to shoot every squirrel I see on both of our properties but the guy that lives 1/4 mile up the road dosnt want me shooting within city limits. Nobody, including him, has any problems with me when Im cleaning up the community, mowing the grass along side the road that nobody else will or when they want to use my boat ramp to get thier boats in and out of the water. Just think Ill sit back and be really quiet for a few months. Continue to do the good stuff I do and this will blow over.

You've done the right thing.  I would just let things cool down.  Sounds like you are a long ways from the city as in "city limits".
