scope mount movement

hey-Hey!!!,
I just got a 4-16x56 Leapers UTG SWAT scope for the RX2. I have it mounted with an RWS droop compensating mount. The scope took very little adjustment to zero, and so it is as close to optical center as is possible. The mount moved backward on first installation. I took it out, tapped the 4 holes all the way through and put in 25 mm bolts. I also drilled in three more bolts holes and tapped them( in between the OE 4 ) and tapped them M5x0,8 all the way through. There are now 7 M5 x 0,8 x 25mm bolts clamping to the dovetail machined into the RX2's compression tube.

I thought I had it, but over nearly 300 rounds it had shown a wee bit of movement. This morning I took the scope and mount off( mount still attached to the scope ), cleaned the engagement points on both rifle and mount and applied a bit of 290 Locktite to it. The wait is killing me... I plan to leave it until tomorrow before firing it again.

I like the heavy scope, the rifle shoots well with a bit of additional mass, and the scope is tolerating the RX2 recoil w/o complaint( crosses fingers ). I am *NOT* going to put in the stop pin; aside from no longer being possible thanks to two of the three added bolts occupying space the stop pins formerly occupied, I do not want the compression tube beat up on with a piece of hardened steel.

Is the next step 271 Locktite? or do I need to go PCP?

Interesting...two more bolts and another cm or so of clamped dovetail. It is close now, just a bit more will probably do it. Just put one of them on the PA list. Got to get some more lead anyway...

You could try the scope stop w/ the one piece mount. But that might move your mount too far forward, so getting proper eye relief on the scope maybe difficult. My RX-1 has a 1 piece mount and scope stop, but my scope is pretty long so I am able to get proper eye relief

There is room just behind the 1 pc munt for that little clamp/stop. I may just try it if the 290 moves even a wee bit.

Almost impossible to prevent a mount from always moving without some kind of stop. Tom Gaylord states that a stop should always be used with dovetails to prevent scope movement. Regardless how tight you can clamp, it won't be tight enough to prevent movement with out a stop. You could hang a pin down in front of the rail, like the UTG RWS drooper dovetail to weaver mounts, but it will still move, hammering the dovetail rail and scope. Even when a stop is used the mounts with scope will still move when the rifle is fired. Loctite was designed to prevent turning of screws, not to prevent dovetails from sliding together, although I don't see where loctite would cause a problem, could maybe help on a low recoil rifle.

Scope dovetails and screw threads are both shear loads...seems a fine fit to me. Of course there would be no issue with a low recoil rifle, and the RX2 is not one of those anyway.
