This might not be new to you, but it is to me. I found this out by accident yesterday.
I needed some new case tumbling media, but I didn't feel mail ordering and waiting for it to arrive. So, I go to thinking and I used rice! We buy rice in 50Lb bulk bags, so I took a few scoops while my wife wasn't looking. Dumped it into my homemade tumbler and added 2 teaspoons of 3M swirl mark remover. 2 hours later, out came 500 rounds of clean and SHINY .45 ACP brass!

Not a bad idea. If I ever run out of tumbling medium, I may give it a try. Right now I am using ground walnut shells or ground up corn cob medium. Depends on how dirty the cases happen to be.

LOL I'll keep that in mind in a pinch if I ever need it thank's,If you ever need some crushed corn cob medium check your local pet store or a farm supply place for it, used as a cage floor cover for little critter's. A couple of us got together an got a 100lb bag a couple of year's an still have not used it up yet, alittle more dusty than the stuff you order but work's just fine.

Ya know, I remember seeing ground corn cob in the pet section at WallyWorld! I hadn't thought about that one. Thanks for reminding me Jay!
Bogey, it works pretty well! I just have a few shells that have the flash holes plugged with rice grain tips. A couple taps on the table and they usually drop free.
Before hand I was using ground walnut. It makes for nice shiny brass, but it takes a while to get the job done. The rice seems to do just as good a job, and takes half the time. Especially if I add the swirl mark remover.
This whole thing has got me thinkin though... How well would corn meal or grits work? LoL!!!

A Tbs of "Brasso" brass polish works very well too. In the Navy, I had to polish everything i owned with the stuff. Corn cobs and Brasso.

Matt you should never place "Brasso" on casing's as it will weaken them over time an cause a danger of a ruptured case in the chamber on you(to much ammonia in it). Get some brass cleaner from Dillon's (great reloader's also). To get a catalog call (800) 762-3844 or to place an order (800) 223-4570, the # for the product is H71-13804 an is $8.95 for 8oz. an a bottle will last you about a year(I clean about 500 cases a month at least) this will clean your brass in one hour in your tumbler an leave's them completely ready to reload with no residue on them.Sorry Guy's that this is long but as a reloader instructor I worry about my friend's getting hurt with the pressure's we work with in our hobbie an had too toss this info in here.

Been using brasso for over 25 yrs without a single problem. I load a lot of .220 Swift and .223 Rem. Both are high pressure rounds.
