SoCal Youth Program @ Angeles Ranges 1st Sunday

The CASA/LASC Silhouette Program is held every first Sunday except July and Septemeber each month.
Cost per shooter is $5. New shooters are welcome and we have equipment for the kids and adults to use. You can bring your own gun or use one of the clubs guns if you call ahead and make arrangements.

We must have one adult for each three kids minimum.
This is the best Facility in SoCal to bring new shooters out and teach them safe gun handling. The message should be positive from all for teaching safe gun handling where it is the best value going to boot.
I have not taught 10 kids in the last year CAUSE NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT THE LASC YOUTH PROGRAM.

That is simply unacceptable so the kids lose.

I'd like to invite anyone in SoCal to shoot with CASA and learn safe gun handling.
The Kids Program lost it's range in 2007 when the LAPD Harbor Range was shut down pending investigation of errant Airgun projectals.

An allegation had been made to the Navy Rear Admiral that a large percentage of our pellets were not being contained by the facility.

To my knowledge an investigation was NEVER started.

I do have a tendency to step on toes and in 2002 I wrote an article to the editor of the Daily Breeze countering the claims that a staff writer had made of the Harbor Police Range being unsafe. They were planning to close it down with the endorsement of Yvonne Braithway Burke who was LA County Supervisor at the time and Leonard Parks LAPD Chief.

It was really easy to make them out the liars they were and they stopped the shut down immediately after the article I wrote (saving a lot of LAPD range personel retirements as well as the range itself).

About 5 years later Burke and Parks did a back door deal with the Navy Admiral who was the landlord, and I got locked out. The Public Range went on as a Police only deal. Still is.

The Youth Program lasted for about 10 years at the LAPD Harbor Range. I taught thousands of kids and adults safe gun handling and there was much laughter and enjoyment by all at that Range every 3rd Saturday.

When they told me it was over I had 13 kids standing there in tears ready to shoot and I had to send them all packing with nothing but a safety lecture.

It broke my heart and made me especially hateful of libbers responsible for range shutdowns, as it got personal right then.

I'm passionate about what I do because i know how fun it is to bring new shooters online. When everyone helps the satisfaction is off the chart and we do the good deed of supporting the 2nd amendment the only way it CAN EVER BE TRULY SUPPORTED.

We need to be the source for new blood in the shooting sports and libbers have stood in the way of safe gun handling programs at Public ranges, so we must go private.

They are attacking our ability to bring in new shooters because they know new shooters will never support libbers. It is a very effective strategy that will eliminate the majority of shooting sports activity in a generation of shooters. Vigilance is our only chance.

Anyone who stands in the way of teaching safe gun handling to kids is MY ENEMY!

I may have lost my momentum but I have not lost the passion. CASA can grow it's status in the community as much as it can grow organically if we do the right things.

I hope in the future we can get this very valuable safe gun handling program to go viral. That would be the libbers worst nightmare to have an explosion of new shooters who will vote the libbers into the weeds in ten years when they gain voting rights.

Shooting Sports has a future and the future will be Airgun Driven if I have my way. Please help by coming to, participating in, networking the information and starting similar programs in your area.
I'm willing to do Safety Lectures and shoot invites to any Youth Program you can invite me to. I've done scouts, church, high school, summer camp and extravaganzas.
Understanding when you are at risk is the most important message we can get out there as understanding safe gun handling is the only way to enjoy shooting sports wisely.

I want one of CASA's legacies to be the Youth Program I've done and would like to do again. When the atmosphere is right you could not have more fun with an airgun.

Directions to the Angeles Shooting Ranges; 12651 Little Tujunga Canyon Road, San Fernando, Tel #1 800 499 4486.
Exit the 210 Freeway at Osborne, go east past the Seven Eleven about two miles up Osborne which becomes Little Tujunga Canyon Rd. When you pass the Ranger station the next driveway on the left is the Angeles Shooting Ranges.
Follow the signs to the main parking lot and then proceed to your left up the hill to the LASC Silhouette faciltiy.
We sight in at 9AM and start the Match at 10AM. We finish up around noon. You can blast away at the side of the range for $5 or shoot the Match for $5 for one gun or $8 for two 40 shot matches.
This is a great venue to get your sight settings at and learn the art of wind doping in real conditions.
Newbies are welcome to come out and learn safe gun handling. Experienced Airgunners will share their knowledge so you can get the most from the time spent.

I had no idea the was air gunning at LASC.  It's been many years since I have shot metallic silhouette there. 

So there is safety training (using airguns) for kids as well as organized FT?

I'd love to bring my 8yr old son for some official safety training and also introduce him to organized shooting.

CASA/LASC Silhouette has been on the first Sunday for two decades now. I have combined the Silhouette with the Youth Program so when we get kids to learn safe gun handling I work with the Kids. The Club owns guns for youths to shoot or you can bring your own if the guns are up to snuff. We do not allow BB's
Shadetree Shooters shoot Airgun Silhouette @ LASC on the 3rd Saturday.
ASR has been CASA's home range for over 20 years and I'm one of the members of LASC as well as an ASR shareholder so the club has been well received to say the least.
Since LASC has a long term lease and the clubs work well together at SASR the sweet ndeal LASC has gets extended to CASA so we can offer the lowest cost Safety Program imaginable.
The guns were donated, Mac1 picks up the tab for the ammo, and we have a ball shooting dinosaurs army men and McDonalds toys.
I've taught so many kids to shoot I have it down and I know how to make it real fun. It isn't hard since I'm a kid at heart. Everytime I get a new shooter on target for the first time it is a thrill like I just learned myself.
It never gets old to see the look on a new shooters face the first time they connected on purpose.

Yes indeed thank you for this.  Just been waiting for Tim to say "ok the girls are old enough time to bring them to the range"  Currently they are 6,5,4 the 6 yr old is getting a longer attention span but the other 2 are not quite ready.  In the meantime the girls visit the shop to get to know Tim but really to play with Cali.

I've taught kids as young as 4 and that was a girl. She was very bright for her age and a calm demeanor like your youngest. It is extremely cool to have something you can do with your kids and since your little one is also your most mature child for her age she is no problem.
Boys at that age are a different story. Kids don't have ID's so I play it as it comes. If a kid doesn't have the attention span they will just play with Cali and be happy anyway. As long as they wear eyewear it doesn't matter what they want to do as long as they are wanting to spend time with dad.
That is priceless and it will not last forever.

As a General Rule the starting age is 7 for boys and 5 for girls. Anyone with kids will know why. There are always exceptions and we will always work our routine on every kid that comes and see what happens. It doesn't matter how old they are when it comes to the safety lecture, eye dominance test and general understanding of what constitutes a risky situation.

I give kids a very definite rule of thumb they can use to know when it is time to get on their bike and ride away from danger. If we teach nothing else that is the most important lesson. Learning safe gun handling inherantly teaches you to know when people around you are not being safe.

Safe Gun Handling is a skill we should promote vigorously. We will get a great reputation in the community as well as bring new shooters online. WIN WIN!

Jan. 6th is the first Sunday of 2013 and the first Silhouette Match of the year for CASA. Come out to the Angeles Ranges and Bring all your kids and neighbors kids to come learn safe gun handling. 2013 is a year where the Gun Ownership rights will be challenged and the best way to keep this from happenning is through shooter education and growth of the number of active shooters and TRAINED individuals that not only own guns but exercise them so they know how to use them proficeintly. An amazing number of gun owners have no clue as to how to be safe so they are more of a threat than an asset to their own security.
Learn Safe Gun Handling for $5. It is the best investment in Human Capital you will ever make and you will instantly know when some jerk is putting you at risk. When your done you can spot unsafe activity from accross a parking lot, playground or auditorium. Wherever you are you want to understand what constituest unsafe gun handling by immersing yourself in learning what is acceptable and safe gun handling behavior. I liken it to a Pedestrian with a drivers licence is a much safer pedestrian. You don't have to enjoy shooting sports to enjoy the feeling of knowing when someone else is being ignorant & dangerous with deadly or recreational guns.
Learn safe gun handling and teach it to anyone who will listen. If you want your kids to be as safe as they can be make sure they understand safe gun handling from a practical standpoint. Guns are not evil. They don't even care or think. They just do the job they were built to do. It is up to US HUMANS TO THINK!
Please call ahead if you are bringing kids. I have gear and targets, eye wear and all for them. Just show up with $5 per head and one adult for each three kids minimum. Genaral age limitations are 6 for girls and 8 for boys but I make exceptions to the rules all the time if the kid has the will and demeanor.
Every year we skip July and September.

No, The youth program is only at the ASR facility in the LASC venue on the first Sunday each month except July & September. Chino Hills is strictlty Field Target on the second Sat.

We had a good time and I got one Girl shooting but she was getting chilly and was in the casr with my girlfriend staying warm before long. The sun was trying to come out but it wasn't having much luck.

I'm looking into starting a new shooting hobby. I've shot plenty of "real" guns, airsoft, bb/pellet pistols and my favorite, Paintball (because you get to shoot people safely). So as you can see, like many of you I like things that shoot.

I need to find a range where air guns are allowed so I can get into the hobby/sport and I have no idea where to start since I live in an area (pasadena) where shooting anything labeled firearm at home is illegal (got in slight trouble when neighbor called the cops when I was shooting my CO2 pistol in the back)

I'm going to start off with a $150-$200 Gamo Whisper or Crosman/Benjamin (nitro piston) so basically springers. My goal is to shoot paper targets, not kill animals since they are too fluffy and cute and I have no use for the meat. I want to learn to shoot accurately using a scope and learning how to adjust for wind and drops. Hope someone here can direct me in the right direction.

How does CASA work? Can I just show up? from what I see, it's for events only and only a few times each month. I'm primarily looking to shoot on weekends.

CASA shoots at the Angeles Facility on the first Sunday at the LASC silhouette venue 9AM. I run a silhoueete program that you can feel free to bring whatever you have and blast AWAY FOR HALF A DAY. WE SHOOT TILL AROUND 12:30! Thne first Sunfdsay is the best day for Newbies to show up as it is only $5 and we will guide you throughj the basdics of Gun Safety and let you shoot outr targets or your own.
Once you get involved with CASA you can get in contact with out various rangemasters and safety officers who run practice days a lot on Saturdays during the month. TYou cannot shoot at the CASA venue without Safety officer Supervisioon but the Range officers will let you know there is a practice day if yoyu keep in toguh with the CASA Forum on Delphi Forums. you can access CASA information and schedle via www.socasa.org as well as the Forum for CASA members and guests.

CASA allows only Pellets to be shot on the Airgun Ranges. No BB's as they ricochet and are innaccurate.
