Benji pump getting sticky.

I have noticed that my pump is getting sticky when I first start to use it. It clears up after 5-6 strokes. Does this mean I need a rebuild? It still pumps to 3500 psi. Do I just put some silicone grease on it to keep from damaging the o-rings? I use it to top off so I only use it to get to 3200 psi and 3500 when doing some experiments.
Any advice welcome I've only had a pump for 11 months and accomplished maybe 100 fills.

I would wipe the shaft clean and then apply some silicone grease, this usually clears this up for me.

Yup, sounds like time for a rebuild dude. No worries, its easy asuming you have some basic hand tools. You might need a vice or a strong friend with a rubber strap wrench. Good luck and dont be scared to ask us questions about repair. We are here to help!!

Thank you I may need so advice and guidance. The tools I got covered. I have about everything I could need and if I don't, I could make it. I've got stuff from a watch screwdriver to a 4 axis proto trac mill machine.

when you take something apart thats complex, make sure you have enough work area to lay the bits and peices out in the order the come off. if you stick to that then when ur ready to put it all back together its as simple as installation is the reverse of removal just work ur way backwards through all the parts.
i have not rebuilt my pump yet, but when i do im going to have some wet sanding paper on hand incase i find something that needs to get smoothed up like a ruff patch on one of the tubes an oring slides on or something. i preffer wet sanding, just like the outcome of it more then dry sanding so i wet sand when i can, aslong as you dry the parts very good and give them some time to air dry wet sanding imo would be ok

Yea, Good advice. I like to use these thing we call bright boys. They will bring things to a near mirror finish if you'd like. Experience has shown me that o-rings don't like a finish quite that smooth unless there is plenty of lube present. I like pics and video when I'm reverse engineering or first time disassembely.

you can also get the sizes and do what i think would be best thing for a hand pump
use 90duro silicon orings.. their rather expensive at 10 bucks for 10 of the same size.. but if that small oring is the failure point then why not upgrade it.. gett he free rebuild kit while you can but i will say after i do my pumps first rebuild i will be ordering those silicon orings.. their ment for high heat and high pressure applications and with hand pumps heat is the killer..
