Whisper Spring Twist

I am tuning a Gamo Whisper for a friend and I am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to reduce the amount of twist and side-wards recoil. It is by far the most rough shooter I've tried out.
I talked with my friend about ordering an after-market spring, but he didn't pay much for the gun and may just sell it if I can't get it shooting better. He's already planning on shelling out the money for a GRT4G, so I'd like to see what I could do without dropping much more cash.
The spring is a bit bent up, and I'm not sure if anything can be done about that. I'm planning on giving it the standard deburr and lube. There is plenty of tar on the spring, and I don't know that I believe that tar helps all that much in most cases. The spring guide looks like it would be hard to fashion a replacement for it because of how it fits through the trigger housing.
Any thoughts?

Those plastic hollow Gamo stocks are very light. Maybe stuff some rags into the stock to give it some weight (And lessen Gamo's infamous "twang") to combat the torque. And/or just shoot it alot and the spring will loose some power and torque.

Personally I would buy a new spring. I had bought a buffing wheel and rouge and high polished the washers and spring ends after squaring the spring end. May need to sand first. It helped to smooth out the shot cycle.

Actually you want the spring to twist/turn some since not allowing it to do so will result in more pronounced side recoil. Deburing and polishong the ends as mentioned will reduce the side tork allowing the spring to twist more smoothly. A guide cna be machined for the newer style Gamo trigger systems since I do it all the time with customer tunes. I use delrin and there's more work involved but the result's are worth it. Slapping on more tar may help for a moment but it ends up getting slung off anyway and I use very little tar in my tunes just enough for a web effect. Ed

Yeah, I was planning to polish the spring ends and washer. Is there anywhere I can find info on making a new guide?

Delrin guides are usually turned on lathes and custom fitted to the spring. Ed

Had made a top hat and spring guide out of derlin on a table saw. Not recommending it but possible if you don't have a lathe.

Try the E3650 spring from air rifle headquarters. I put one in the very first B19 (gamo clone) I ever tuned, and it shot like a dream.
