Short successful hunt

I was able to steal away for just a few minutes this evening and after doing a little range time in the basement with several of my air rifles I decided to take the Big Cat out this evening. I’ve had this gun for what seems like forever and I still can’t believe how well this thing still shoots. I replaced the stock power plant long ago and up graded the mount to a Sportsmatch adjustable mount the holds a Centerpoint 4 x 16 AO scope. This thing is a real tack driver when I do my part.
There was a lot of activity around the dairy farm today so that tends to put the birds on high alert. But I was still able get a few shots. The first was on a flock of blackbirds that were feeding on a pile of silage 40 yards from my shooting position. At the sound of the shot the bird just jumped straight up and then rolled slowly down the pile. The after retrieving that bird I watched as 6 Eurasian doves landed in the trees near where I had parked the car. I loaded the Big Cat with another CPHP and made my way to steel gate so I had a steady rest. As I nestled in behind the scope I could feel a slight breeze on the left side of my cheek which automatically reminded me to give this bird a little allowance for wind drift. I wasn’t exactly sure of the distance but decided to hold just slightly left but not higher then the bird. At the sound of the shot it was like his maker just flipped a switch and all life suddenly left his body. I swear that bird was dead before the pellet exited his body cavity. He fell straight down with so much as a wing flap, in fact it was so sudden not all the birds left the tree at the shot. I quickly loaded a second pellet and readied myself for another shot, replaying the sight picture in my mind I was just starting to put pressure on the trigger when the last bird decided things weren’t safe and took flight. After I went and retrieved that bird I ranged the distance and came up with 47 yards. I can’t wait to dress that one out and see exactly where shot entered to shut him down so quickly.

47 yards is definitely a shot to be proud of. Good shooting. I know I always say it but I'm gonna say it again,, I sure wish we had those collared doves in NY

Thanks Jeff, I'm surprised those doves haven't made it to your area yet. Has there been any sightings near your location? I forgot to mention in the above post, while walking out the door to head to the dairy I counted 7 of them under my feeder in the front yard, but the wife has deemed the whole yard a "no kill zone" to me it's simply a "no joy zone".
I just recieved an automated email that said my new Remington NPSS is due to be delivered tomorrow, I just ordered the thing last night, WOW. As soon as the wifey calls to tell me she signed for it I will be on my way home from work to check it out. I can't wait.

Great shots amigo! Having lived out west for years, I'm sure the wind can be a challenge on long shots-especially with an air rifle.

Nice 47yd shot Dave! The BC does it again!
Hurry up and send Jeff and I some live Eurasian doves so they can spread their seed and we can have lots of shooting to do in about 2-3yrs
I have the Beeman 5039 adj. scope on the 350 .22 which is supposed to be a Sportsmatch. Very solid scopes.
