Plan to mod 1377 help please

I am retired on a fixed budget, but each month I can spare a few bucks for mods.
I don't just want to be a taker here on the site; but I have done a lot of searches over the last several weeks, just more questions.

So far:
Trigger work, lighter spring, Polished the trigger, added washers each side of trigger, lithium lube all moving parts.  The trigger is light, crisp , breaks nice, no creep.  Replaced pump handle from an old 760.

Added 1399 shoulder stock, what an improvement (I have serious arthritis in my shoulders can't shoot rifles anymore all too long, stock is perfect length).  Added intermounts, Daisy red dot scope, mounted as far forward as possible. (With this little scope scary accurate).

I have a 1322 acquired few weeks ago, shot few hundred rounds through.
I am experiment with the 1377, not worried about looks, then will apply similar upgrades to the 1322.  1322 will get some bling as money is available.

MY NEEDS / QUESTIONS:
Next flat top valve from Mellon (the plan), barrel band and 14.5 in barrel
Long probe bolt  (CAN THIS be used with the standard plastic breech)
Power Adjuster   (WHY would one need this with 1377?).
Steel breech ASAP.

I have a ton more questions, but don't want to make post too long.

Sounds like your off to a good start Sam. I don't use a power adjuster on any of my 1377s no need for it. Yes the prob can be used with a plastic breech but i would wait until you get the steel breech. Also if your going for a FT valve you should get the piston also you will get a bit more power that way and there really meant to be together but it will work with just the valve. And ask all the questions you want that's why were all here.

I agree with Crosshairs. The power adjuster really has no value to a 1377 unless you are going to experiement with air conservation of the valve. That is another, very complex topic.

Do the steel breech, extended probe bolt, barrel, barrel band, flat top piston and flat top valve at the same time. While ordering from Mellon, DEFINITELY purchase a replacement pivot pin. That nasty roll pin on which the pump arm pivots is a pain to remove and re-insert. The replacement pin slides in and out smoothly making tear down so fast and easy.

The Flat-Top Piston IMO is necessary if you are getting the FT Valve.... they are made to work together, adjusted so that there is no headspace, which increases compression ratio.... You get more pressure in fewer pumps.... Once you fit the FTP, if you pump about 18 times or so, you will notice that the valve will start retaining air.... ie after the shot if you cock the gun and pull the trigger you will hear a small "POP".... If you fit a power adjuster and increase the hammer spring preload you can eliminate that for a couple more pumps.... However, with your arthritis, you main find pumping that much is a "pain" literally, so if you never pump it that high then changing springs or fitting a power adjuster is just a waste of time and money....

You will find getting the steel breech and eliminating the intermounts for the scope will make the gun much better.... a good mod to do as soon as you can afford it....

Dogmansam, I love my 1377 but the trigger is poor - long and jerky first stage. I thought of removing the trigger spring and cut 2 1/2 loops off of the length and then stretch it back to its original 1.25 inches. What did you replace the spring with? How do you polish the trigger?

I actually came across a couple of surprises working on the trigger.  Don’t get the idea that I really have a clue what I am doing.  This was my first ever trigger mod, and I am still playing with this.  I am sure there are plenty of people on GTA that are more adept than me.

What I did:  Went to Ace hardware and found a spring of the same size but lighter.  Replaced the trigger spring.  You will have to adjust the spring compress or stretch a little to suit you, the springs I got light enough that I can easily compress the with my fingers.  My wife had, now mine, a nail file one of those inch half wide, and super fine grit on each side.  Probably find them anywhere for a couple of bucks much finer than 600 grit ultra fine silicon carbide sand paper.  After light filing, this is just something you have to play with, removed the paint where it contact with the sear.  Have not filed the sear yet. 
(NOTE – Do not do what I did first mod was on my 2240 (same mods), but did what all say not to do .  DON’T lose the little ball, well not me, but I did play with the little spring even though I had a white towel on the table lost that little spring.  Who need a safety anyway?) 

I found some small washers at ACE and put one on each side of the trigger, removes that left right wiggle in the trigger.  I had bought white lithium grease to work on my P-17 (love that little POS tell you about it sometime) I used lithium lightly on all moving parts especially those little pins that hold the trigger and the sear make sure to lubricate the hole going on to the pegs.  Get everything together install the side plate. 

Cock, pull trigger, adjust spring.  SOMETHING I HAVE NOT SEEN MENTIONED BEFORE.  If you make the trigger spring to loose trigger will not return then won’t engage the hammer.  Had the same problem with the 2240, THEN studied the problem.  Discovered that if you tighten the SIDEPLATE too much causes this problem.  Adjust the tension on the screws for the plate a combination of this and playing with the spring might get a good trigger pull (still playing with 1377).

I did these mods to the 2240 have a nice light trigger pull.  C A U T I O N  be careful with this mod.  I am a fanatic about safety never cover myself or anyone else while shooting.  While shooting on my range in the basement coming up on target (wasn’t paying attention just plain carelessness)  had my finger on the trigger something I just never do; accidentally pulled trigger (light pull) shot the pellet about 4 feet in front of me into the floor, scared *(&^ out of me still wondering how I could be so stupid.  IF YOU HAVE YOUNG SHOOTERS  D O  N O T  make triggers this light I can’t stress this enough.

I hope this helps you, maybe we can get some real experts to weigh in on these mods.

Go to the hardware store a buy a softer spring...... "Cutting" a spring does not make it softer.
It makes it stiffer...Suspension 101.

You would be surprised what place like ACE has .

I don't know, but i read somewhere that the " little ball " in a grease fitting is the same size, it'd sure be worth checking out.
