Last day of the Season so I was on watch. I had see them passing though but was just catching glimpses of them headed off so today I was on full alert

I saw this one run up the apple tree to the bird feeder and as I had the Disco ready with a Kodiak ,I went to get a shot, he jumped off the feeder and went to the top of the tree but I had his head in the scope. I let him have a late lead lunch and he flew off the branch and landed DOA .

Man I hate that it is over too! However we have SPRING SQUIRREL SEASON! It isn't over for very long for us. I actually saw one today but chose not to take it out. I have plenty of meat in the fridge and I need a serious re-stock! I think I shot over 50 out of the lowlands this year.

The other day I was walking Tobey the Feared Hunting Puppy, and we saw some baby squirrels already! The re-stock is beginning in earnest! I'm also really thinking about trapping some from other areas and bringing them home. That way I can continue to train the puppy. Not sure if he is going to be a squirrel dog, but at least he is going to be a good hunting companion. He is doing well in his obedience stuff. Not afraid of the guns, but he doesn't like the car/truck yet!
