Crossman 2200 Chrome Receiver

I have rebuilt my old Crossman 2200. Total disassembly and clean up, new pump seal, new valve, new transfer port  o-ring. It shoots about 550 fps with JSB Exact Jumbo RS pellets. After I shoot it I can re-cock the bolt and dry fire it with out pumping it an it still has residue air left in the valve. Is this normal or is there a problem with it not releasing all the air stored in the valve?

It sounds like your hammer spring is to light and not hitting the valve stem hard enough.

Hey Denny,
I just received a 2200 I had a bought a couple of weeks ago....took it straight to chrony. 
I got an average of 553 with CPHP 14.3.  Haven't tried the JSB pellets at all. How they working for you on accuracy?  I'm assuming that's why your shooting them....or did you get a case of em for free? LOl

Pete you just got your self one *(&^ of a gun for the money it's one of the most powerful accurate fun guns you will ever shoot IMHO. I just repaired mine this summer and loving it. Im getting between 605 and 625 fps with 14.3gr pellets. Enjoy it.

I finally got all the mods done to my 2200. Here is a list of what I have done. Bored the valve over .060 cut the cap of the valve .200 shorter and reduced the diameter of the valve stem. This gave the valve more volume for air. Took the 90 degree angle out of the valve transfer port so the air stream flowed smoother. Drilled the breach and barrel transfer port to .169 so it could transfer more air faster. Cut a o-ring groove in the breach and installed a o-ring to seal the barrel to breach connection. Put two 8-32 set screws through the compression tube to hold the valve in place. The only thing holding it before was the transfer port on the breach. I read on the Crosman forum with out the set screws that this would allow for the valve to work back an forth slightly while being pumped so decided to fix that problem. The following is the old and new velocities after the mods.

Obviously I not going to pump this rifle 20 times normally but I wanted to see what it would do. It also started to blown the breach open about a 1/8 inch after 13 pumps so I decided to use 11 pumps max as the norm. I would never dreamed it would do over 700 fps but very happy with the results, not bad for a 33 year old rifle. These little rifles have a lot of potential with a little work.

Not Bad . The Factory spec on these is 595fps.( Just for reference)
 I am currently in process of rebuilding my 2200 , if Crosman would just send the right parts.
Curious to know how you uncapped the valve with damaging anything. Seems people are keeping mum on this subject.

I machined a flat on each side of the cap on the taper. The flats let me put a crescent wrench on the cap to remove it without gouging it all up with pliers.

I took one apart ...heated it with the micro torch, then wrapped the cap in leather and got it with the pliers.  machining flats would be nice...not an option for me....could grind them maybe. Would love to see pics of your work.

The flats can be machined with a flat file. Just take it slow and easy and clamp the valve in a vise with rubber jaws or use wood slats to protect the valve.

Yes, on the taper in front of the o-ring. I would have to disassemble my rifle to take pictures of the mods. The work on the valve would be very hard to take pictures of because the work is inside the valve cavity and the o-ring groove on the breach is very small too, inside of the breach cavity. I will give all the dimensions to help you if you want them

Nope it's a 14.3gr thanks i just caught that . The 7.3 was shot out of my 2100.
