I just received an new RWS 34 and I am wondering what I should do to get it ready to shoot. It has oil over most of the metal parts, I think I read somewhere to use denatured alcohol to remove the oil. Airgun Web had a video indicating that using a brass brush to clean the bore, followed by oil on a mop, then run patches thru the bore until they come out clean. Is this the recommended procedure for this gun?

I'd clean the barrel with WD40 and dry it. Put a few drops of RWS spring cylinder lube on the spring and maybe a drop of RWS air chamber silicon oil in the transfer port. Mine came pretty dry of lube, so I did this using the RWS lubes as recommended on the labels, and later I also put a few dabs of bar and chain lube on the spring (and only the spring) and let it dry before shooting again. That, and a little break-in shooting was all it took to make it smooth performer.

No brushes needed will damage bore. Use a pull thru patch holder clean from breech to muzzle....WD40, Goo Gone, a light oil almost anything pull patches thru till excess is gone.
What caliber and model did you get?
2 or 3 drops of spring oil via spring slot to prevent galling of the piston to the compression tube let it drip down to top of inside and cock a few times to spread it around to piston skirt. They are quite dry from factory
leave the chamber alone for now
ANY oil usage is temporary till you can break it down for a proper lube
Most important point of oiling is USE VERY LITTLE or you will end up with a dieseling mess

I got the 22 from Pyramid air. Looks like I need to get some spring oil.

make sure you clean the barrel out before you shoot it first shot even if it looks clean inside you cant see what kind of dirt monsters are hangin out in those rifle grooves and when shot they could imbed themselves resulting in bad accuracy and all kinds of unwanted stuff otherwise shoot the he %% out of it i have 2 - 1 in .22 and theother in .22. great choice in air guns the 34 is a real workhorse in my opinion and great gun for the price range. does yours have to.6 trigger ? mine are to.5 but nice triggers . keep us posted on how nice it shoots we love to read about how things wok here and if its your forst time here welcome to gta
