Just did this gun tonight for a buddy and we traded work for an air gun.Some people wanted to know how it went on and did.Theres a couple different kinds of Cerakote,one air dry which does really well and the other heat dried.The baked on finish can withstand much more heat up to 1400 degrees over the air dry.air dry is apx 400 degrees great for air guns.i prefer Cerakote over Durakote for many reasons.i think it is more durable and less pron to nicks and scratches and also wears better on moving parts.Do not spray in the house even using an airbrush as it does smell ALOT.I prefer a lvhp air gun over an airbrush.To me its easier to use and control.I also prefer air gun over aersol can as i can control the pressure better and dont worry about running out of propelant.i Clean the barrel then sand her down with 180 and then 400 grit wet dry paper.anything much smoother and you can have adhesion problems.I wipe her down with acetone to remove anything left then heat her up to 250 degrees just to make sure no oil is left in the metal before painting.Always wear glove so you don't get any oil on metal and use dustless gloves also.After i heat her up to remove any oils left in metal i use very fine steel wool to remove imperfections and the slight rust you may get from the heat.Cerakote has many many colors to choose from which i like alot.Cures in 24 hours and fully cured and hard in 5 days.Its basically a ceramic coating painted on. Very nice work. Even though the color looks very solid, it rally keeps the details like in the stamped letters.
It looks like something that takes a while to get the hang of. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Hmmm. I'm thinking.... you are pretty good at that.

Yes the words stand out as this material is very thin.You can put it on to thick,it just takes a bit of practice.Good prep in the beginning is the key.2 - 3 coats is the max.More then that she will fill the letters on the barrell.This color is a charcoal black so its really a semi satin type finish after it completely cures out. Hard as a rock also

The Cera Kote color charts remind me of fancy fingernail polish displays.... how many choices of red does a woman need, or in our case, how many choices of black and gray and silver do you need?
As my wife would say..." how many choices of gun colors does a N-O-R-M-A-L person need?"

Here ya go Mustang.I did this highpoint a few days ago in Charcoal Black and trimmed in Stainless and stippled the grips.Stippled the forearm and checkered the end of this shotgun for a better look and am about to do the barrel.Checkered the butt stock also but haven't taken a pic of it yet.Gonna do it in black but put a high gloss on it also,mainly for looks but this old gun is a shooter!Have done many Ar's in two tone also.Hardest one to do are the plastic.Getting it roughed up enough to stick well without damaging plastic.The lettering on the high point was already hard to read even though gun is new so i had to coat it to a minimum as not to fill wording in to much.Did an old J Stevens Arms and tool company rifle in .22 cal for my buddy at his gun store and now its on the wall.Blued the barrel and heated up the receiver and dunked it in oil to give it back that older look.Got it working again also and test fired the old gal and shes a blast.Redid the wood also and about when it was almost dry i rubbed in a little black tar where you re hands would be on it alot to age it up some and she came out pretty nice.I think he looks for old junk just for me!My new tanks should be here soon i hope as my old ones are getting worn out.When this stuff is fully and properly cured its tuff as nails.For example after apx 5 days or a bit more 220 grit paper doesn't faze it at all hardly.You mess up you need to get it off quickly but after it dries start i start with 80 grit to sand it down some then 220 and possible 320 on occasion but that can be to smooth for good adhesion then re-shoot.

ive had passing thoughts of having my 22lr done but idk it was built sometime in the early 70's before glenfeild sold out to marlin so i think its a collectors rifle now..

i have several glenfield 60s before they changed to marlins.they are good shooters.I have many rifles in .22 cal as i like to collect .22 pb.if i have 2 i coat one and blue the other if needed.If in good shape i leave alone.I got one from 1960 that was new in box never fired for 100.00.Am on the trail of a 1959 model 99 right now also if the price is right.Well goodluck with you re guns!

thanks, it is a very sweet rifle and shoots like a dream.. you can see in the wording on the barrel that its a glenfild mod 20 and behind it says the marlin company.. so im assuming its towards the end of the last production run that glenfeild did before marlin fully took over. the only down side to the rifle is that the bolt cannot be removed so its a bit of a pita to clean..

heck i even have the sears company scope that came with it as a packaged deal
