Benjamin Trail NP 'striking' pellets?
«

Hello,
I bought a Trail NP about two weeks ago. After making a pellet trap using duct seal, I was able to recover some pellets my gun has shot. Looking at the back of the pellet under the skirt, I noticed that there is a smooth, linear shiny spot. The pellet looks as though the gun has struck it in the back. Is this normal or should the pellet be only pushed out of the gun by air?
Thanks

Welcome to GTA. Unless you are comparing shot pellets to unshot, it sounds normal. What brand pellet?

I don't think it's even possible for it to be 'struck' from how you are explaining it. Nothing but air goes through the port.

The pellets are JSB Exact 18.13gr pellets. I am comparing fired and un-fired pellets. I have just pulled another out of my trap. It doesn't have the same markings as the ones I saw last night. Unfortunately I didn't keep the ones that had the marks which, in retrospect, probably wasn't a good idea. I'll take some more shots and see if I find the same again.
My thought was that possibly part of the shaft that's inside the piston was protruding out when fired and was hitting the pellet.

the only way this can happen is if the pellets stick out a bit from the breech. They would then get clipped on the skirt when you closed the barrel.

I do think that I hadn't pushed on pellet into the breach far enough and did notice some clipped lead when i put the next pellet in. It could have been just what you described.

Use a AAA battery tip to seat the pellets. The small button on the AAA battery always pushes the pellet in the same amount.
Better accuracy as the insertion amount is consistent.
