Welcome aboard!
$1000 is a awesome budget! Lucky you. I have a 470 th that ive stretched out to over 100yds several times. Got a video of a 115 yd kill on a 12 diet mt dew. With a vortek kit and good scope it is awesome and in your budget. I bad a leapers 4-16x40 ao scope on it until last month when i finally broke down and got a hawke eclipse. The leapers scope held up just fine. Im sure many will suggest aa and hw guns, ive never shot one so cant suggest those. My 470 is a 177 and slings 10.2 gr jsbs in the 890 range and at 20 yds i can shoot 1/4 in 10 shot groups off my rest which is a camera tripod with a sock full of rice ontop.
Well good luck with your search!

You mentioned having a Diana 350 which is inconsistant for you.
I have a 350 and they are a hard shooter and they also twist during the firing cycle. That's what makes them hard to get repeat shots.
What I did to mine is tuned it with a Vortek kit and seal. This will calm them down. The fps will drop some but it will also take out the twist. I have a .22 and it shoots around 900 fps now and much more pleasant to shoot and twice as accurate. Don't mind shooting it now as the results satisfy. Smile instead of frown. About eighty dollars will make you think you have a new rifle.

The vortek kits will transform your 350 into a much nicer shooter and its alot less than a new shooter. But once the bug bites ya for a new shooter your not going to be happy till you get one. Lol the 97 is sweet been looking at it and researching for a while and cant find anything bad about them.
Thumbhole stocks arnt for everybody. I loves mine though. Good luck on the search.

Clownkilla, If you`re not so fond of a t/h stock with the 470, then try a 460 Magnum.I can only advise you based on my experience with my own one .Its awsome.
Now just go and do it .
