BSA .22 AIRSPORTER ARRIVED

Today I recieved my Model GL 1974 - 1983 .22 cal Underlever BSA , Number 23051. If anyone can put an actual year on the number I`d be real happy? I'd love to hear from anyone that has got one of these beauty English rifles .
I`d only seen it in a pic on auction , but when it arrived I say it is used but in excellent condition. Some of the original "patina " has worn in the places where its been handled regulary.Overall I'd say its 85 /100.
At 12 metres , shooting 12.65 Grn ARLAZ she packs a real thump. Probably not very fast but enough to wipe out a Rabbit.
The trigger was so hard to pull , the previous owner never set it up I'd say. I reset that to a comfortable point where the pull weight is ok for now .....more adjustment there later though.
The open sights are good with a reversable rear sight plate , takes it from a square sided slot to a 90 degree vee. The hooded foresight is also adjustable , the blade with a small sphere at the top is adjustable height wise which I found to be very handy, as at the short range I wasn`t able to get my zero low enough. With the elevation down as low as it would go I was still shooting 2" high at 12 metres .But, by raising the foresight fractionally I achieved it simply . A good idea I reckon . I wish I knew how to post pics , thats my next task.
What weight pellets should I be using , she's going off with quite a bang (not dieselling ) ?

I have an "ET" carbine version of the Airsporter. However mine is in .177 caliber so I can't recomend a pellet. You can send an e-mail to Mark Knibbs - enquiries@airgunspares.com - and he may be able to give you an estimate of the date of manufacture. Mine was made from 1985 to 1986, according to Mark.
I really like mine. I stripped it down and did a tune job on it and it shoots smoother than when I got it. The trigger takes a little tweaking to get it decent. Mine has an articulated link above the trigger blade that gives the feel of a two-stage unit, but I don't think that it really is. Good luck with yours.

I think I saw the gun you are talking about (carbine) sold recently on GunBroker. I was contemplating it but couldn't decide if the gun had been chopped or not. Subsequent searches indicated that some came this way. Barrel looked to be all of a foot in length.

Today I chrony'd my old Airsporter .22. I was using 13.8 Grain round head pellets . FPS = 449.82 average ,with a 34.9fps spread. 6.2ft/lbs energy.
And she groups nicely now with a bit of regular use, at 10 metres I can put 5 inside a 20mm circle which I reckon is ok.
