Love the pistol, good weight, decent sights, ultra quiet.  Loading the pellets is difficult almost all of the time  

I would suggest this gun to friends forewarning them of the pellet loading.

Daisy Flat Nosed, ave 376.66fps, 2.36fpe - nice consistent group!

Velocity has increased some, by either adding a little pellgunoil to the breech o-ring, or simply getting enough rounds through it. 
A string of 35 shots with the Crosman hunting pellets produced an average of 401.77fps, up slightly from 388.15fps, or 2.65fpe up from 2.47fpe.

So far the piston o-ring appears to be holding up, I would guess I have a 150 rounds through it as of now.

I have 2 and they avg. around 410 fps- have over 600 pellets thru both- had to reseal the 1st-piston and valve(have to remove trigger group to access) o-rings readily available at Ace(metric sizes) while having trigger group out was able to tighten trigger screw in a bit making the trigger have less take-up-great,accurate pistol for the money-switched to crosman pointed for much easier loading-looking forward to 5 meter matches starting up again-great winter activity

For what it's worth, I had a terrible time with the two I bought, only exchanging the first for the second after it started leaking around the 200 shot count so badly that I couldn't get the pellet out fast enough to even sting.
The second did exactly the same thing.
I returned it for a refund and gave up at that point.
I've been told that an o-ring replacement is needed to keep these guns going, but I thought 200 shots before a very bad leak was unacceptable, even for a ~$40 airgun.
Maybe they've fixed the problem at this point, since that was about three years ago.
I really did like the trigger, though.

I have two of the P17s and shoot them more than my expensive pistols.  Neither P17 has exhibited any problems but I had shot 500 Vogel wadcutters through the first one and decided to take it apart for examination and lubrication.

I found a very small nick in the large O-Ring which was the result of either lack of care when assembly or possibly wear from the air hole.  The air hole itself was extremely smooth and I did not attempt to polish it.

I cleaned the piston, replaced the O-Ring and re-lubricated with Dow Corning Molykote 33.  This is a good quality lithium/silicon grease. The O-Ring was readily available at my local Mennard's HW store.  It appears to be an exact replacement.

Much to my surprise I saw no other signs of wear and it even worked properly after I re-assembled it

I'll never understand why people don't even attempt to replace the o-rings and just return it.  It does not require any special order tools to do a tear down on this pistol. I own 3 and only the 2nd one required new o-rings. In my opinion returning this b/c of a bad o-ring, is like returning a brand new car b/c on the way home from the dealership a tire failed. Replacing the tires is something you'll have to do at some point on any car (just like an o-ring on an airgun). It has just happened a lot sooner then expected.  Anyone remember the fiasco with ford explorer tires? Do we blame ford or the tire mfg for that? Huadong just puts the o-rings on, I doubt they manufacture the o-rings as well. Since the quality of manufacture on the rest of this pistol is amazing for $40. Much easier to work on then the $55  1377 (which is another fine pistol).

My wife got me 2 P-17s  for Christmas one is setup with a BSA red-dot and the other one is plain sights.So far they shoot the same as far as FPS.But about 3 weeks ago before i got them, i got a bunch of o-rings from work ,just in case . #006 ,009 and 116.I lubed both before any shots were put thru them. I like them both very much,very accurate,very nice triggers.

My current set up:

Bottom left = 3rd, stock, no changes.
Top = 2nd,"goldie", 4x15 crosman targetfinder compact version, 2x replacement nitrile o-rings after one of the originals blew.
Bottom right = 1st,"ol' silver", open sights, small o-ring replacing the rear-sight spring (reduced movement there = improved accuracy a lot).

Pretty much says it all, I have the Remington version AM 77 and it's the same, one of my cheapest and most fun!

Sometimes, our $300 and up guns are more worry than fun, these aren't.

PS what did you use to paint your 1377 grips and how is it holding up?

i think it was the same brand as what i used on the mkII and on some metal railing and equipment that is outdoors...
the fusion based spray paint. Satin or Flat Black one of those.  From now on i'm planning on just using the camo black instead.  Its ultra flat and a lil bit more per ounce.

It has held up ok... It was my first time using it on plastic (used it on a few metal mail boxes).
 Up close I can see the telltale signs that after I wiped it down with rubbing alcohol I must have touched it with my bare hands cause there are some smudges on the pump arm. I usually wear nitrile gloves when using spray paints, but i do think i may have been stupid and carried the cleaned plastic in my bare hands from indoors to the spray site.
I think I may have lost a ball bearing for the safety on the 1377 cause, while functional it doesn't quite seem to work as well as I remember it working. I suppose I should take some pictures of it... but once i get one of those new 1322's I don't imagine i'll shoot the 1377 much. I used the same gold leafing pen i used on the goldie p17 to detail the 1377's "american classic" and it looks nice... really should take a photo...

UPDATE: As you can see from the last 1377 photo... its puke brown underneath. And the before/after on the mk II using camo ultra flat. As you can sorta see the satin (or flat) is still a lil too glossy/shiny.  If i could do it over again, i'd use the camo ultra flat.

in regards to the green post, the only thing i think the guy did 'wrong' is buy the 0-rings individually for 99 cents...

I'm pretty sure you can buy a assorted variety bag with somewhere between 8-12 metric o-rings for like 4-5 bucks at just about any automotive repair place that has the relevant o-rings in it.

Other then that its pretty much what i've seen; fix the factory o-rings, lube with lithium grease = WIN.

but yeah, Derrick's breakdown on this pistol (which is mentioned in the green post), has been the single most helpful website i've seen.  Its what convinced me to give this lil pistol a chance.

I'm new to airguns and just bought a P17 last Sunday, after 5 shots it stopped firing.  I did a quick search and found Derrick's excellent articles and dove into it.  I found the stamped steel sear was very rough and wasn't able to release from the hammer.  A quick polish with emery cloth and a good lube and it releases very smoothly now.  I've fired a couple hundred shots without a hiccup.
