OK, you are correct on the "white" mark, that is from stress or a bending moment in ABS plastics. Is that the part that goes into the pump tube like a 1377?

yes....this part goes into the pump tube,and secures the barrel to the tube.
all held in place by 1 roll pin.
ive pulled the rest of the broken part off,there is a air bubble right at the break...from the molding process.

thankfully i picked up a 760 for parts,im running the 760 pump handle,and barrel band at the moment.
ugly gun....but will get me by for now.

and 8 more shot....the stock just broke....hey!?
my gun is from the first batch m417...maybe its a weaker plastic.
now im not happy at all.
time to put this barrel and pump on the 760 i guess,im affraid the m417 will be a pile of broken plastic soon.
she was stored in my gun cabinet in a room that stays around 70 degrees.so i dont think heat was a factor.
she did spend 2 nights outside in 60 degree weather.
i dont get it...other than cheap,weak plastic.
i wasnt excessive in handling this gun either.im very careful.

It's obvious, you have to quit shooting it! LOL

Seriously, let Cros know about all of this "stuff". ABS with good chemistry and proper casting/molding should not fall apart like this unless, there is a thick/thin stress riser issue in the design that just won't hold up to use regardless of the plastic quality. A good close-up (well lit) of that stock would help at Crosman too.

my m417 got returned because it wasnt grouping good and i did test it with a scope and did not like having to hold the shoulder stock while pumping it felt like it was going to break... if it had grouped decently and had williams sights on it or as i call them normal sights id have kept it and kept it open sighted for pumping

not going to shoot her anymore.
shes in parts,installed the barrel on my 760...going try that one now.

m4-760....lol.
tried putting the whole pump assembly,but that meant hacking up pump handles.
the m4's pump assembly is longer than the 760....hence why the m4 is eaiser to pump.

my m4 groups very well.
when i pump i hold the gun by the pistol grip...never the stock.
my stock sight ran out of up elevation at 10 yards...useless stock sights.

i now have the m417's pump and barrel assembly installed in the 760 body,also extended the bolt.
so i guess i better post up in another thread.

ive contacted crosman,they admitted to weak plastics on the m417,offered to replace the entire gun,i told them no.
asked for qoute on new stock,barrel band,and extra barrel.
i was told no parts list exist,so i couldnt be qouted on a price.
i had to send the gun in....which im not doing.

last gun i sent in was a monster xl 1100 spitting cphp's out at 940-960,that was after 1500 rounds fired.when the gun came back she only shot 860-880,after 1000 rounds fired.
thats why im refusing to send my m417 in,crosman stated they would swap me a m4-177....i declined.

so crosman is co-operating with replacement of the 1 year warranty.
being i have the gun apart....my warrenty is void.

recieved an email from crosman,the barrel sight guide is on order....3-5 week wait.
a woman by the name of sally also sent me an email.appoligized for the parts breaking.says she has put in an order for my barrel band at no charge.
also stated that the new ones are made of stronger material.

ill keep you guys updated.

crosmans supplier is sending me a new barrel band and stock free of charge,but it may take awhile.
there is no parts list,no part numbers...ect.

so if your m417 has broken plastics from normal use,contact crosman for replacement parts.
be sure to include closeup pictures and a detailed explination of the failure.
id recommend by email.a phone call may end with ....im sorry but we currently dont carry any parts for your gun.
crosman directs you to the supplier for all your parts needs.

i even explained that i currently had my m417 apart,using the pump assebbly and barrel in another gun.this voids crosman from any liability.
however the failure of the plastics caused my disassembly,and crosman is still liable for the quality and workmanship of the plastics.
normally a manufacture would tell you sorry,no warranty....but we can repair at your cost.

sofar.....crosmans paying the bill.

good deal, and who is the "other supplier" they referred you too?

Cros website still shows "no parts available thru Cros", that's a lil different than most new guns they bring out?

that is the question of the year my friend.
im trying to determine that aswell.
the email i recieved is from a worker at the supplier,says no company name at all.
looks like a personal account.
no ties to crosman in the tittle of the email,subject...ect.(edit....it says crosman group in the email addy)
ill try to pry the name from her.
when i know....you guys will know.
but i think its in crosmans best intrest if we didnt know.
im also pretty sure crosman has a highly thoughtout and detailed contrat with said company,as to not share any specs unless directed so by crosman.
crosman has millions tied up in this company.

Gotcha, sounds like Crosman supplies the 760-ish "guts" to a plastic parts molding and assembly shop that builds the rifles?

thats what i get from it.
the m417 is based off the 760,long pump tube,and pump linkage.everything else is 760

I bought 2 of these guns. One barrel band completely broke other one showing stress marks. Just got off phone with crosman. They say they have no knowledge of a problem. Being sent parts diagram. If anyone needs it please contact me, I will passit on. Crosman did say they would replace the parts. Will let you know how it turns out. Need to get them fixed quick . Two grandsons hartbroke they cant shoot them.

statement indicates the plastic was changed for some reason.

also wanted to let you know that the new barrel bands are made of a stronger material and you should not have any problems with this new barrel band.
as I stated in an earlier email this is a new gun and we do not have the parts breakdown to order parts from

Received 2 new barrel bands from crosman today. Same material no change. Hope they hold up a little longer this time.

recieved my new barrel band today.....no charge to me.
my new barrel band looks a different shade of black,plastic feels more flexiable.
should hold up better!
