Pics of scope and mount damage

After tuning and reassembling my original Diana 34 (Dorina) I decided to take the scope (RWS 3-9x40) that came with the new 34 pro compact (Mori) and put it on the old rifle. Boy was I surprised to see the pin on the mount (pic 1) was very bent and the scope itself had a nice gouge on it (pic 2)!
I've fired maybe 2000 pellets through the new rifle... this might explain why I was running into the occasional accuracy problem. I'm sure my own shooting was part of the problem, but ya can't deny that the mount was definitely an issue as well.
So, I swapped out the mount that came with Mori (RWS one piece mount and rings) and put her scope on a UTG Scope Mount base I bought a while back for Dorina's glass (RWS 4x32). The third pic is the 3-9x40 scope and the UTG mount on the older rifle. She looks pretty don't she? Aww yeah.
Haven't fired her with the newer scope yet, but just wanted to share the pics of the RWS mount damage and damage that mount did to the scope after only a couple thousand pellets. The UTG mount has shot more than that, looks brand new, and didn't do a thing to the scope that was on it. Thinking about picking up another one for the 4x scope. Probably will one day... no, definitely will one day.

The built-in barrel droop in that UTG adapter is obvious.
Have to agree that going with the tried and true Weaver rail/ring system is quite possibly
the
universal mounting system that assures the scope stays put.

The droop compensation is pretty clear ain't it?
Unfortunately I just learned that it doesn't work with the 3-9x40 scope. I've got the vertical dialed all the way down and it's shooting about 5 inches high! On both rifles. One of the things I love about the UTG mount is how easy it is to put on and take off.
However, it works very well with my compact 4x32 scope. Does that make any sense? If I was to put a shim in there, where would be the best place?

You will want that shim in the front ring, under the scope.
As you raise the front of the scope, your POI will lower.
The converse is true if you put them in the rear ring.

Awsome, thanks! I'll do that eventually. For now I put the old 4x back on. Gonna get that second mount sooner rather than later.
p.s. (added in edit) Wait a sec, if I need to raise the front of the scope, then I should get the mount that does
not
have the droop compensation!
