help made a big mistake
«
on:

went to replace my barrel this morning and cant get the pivot bolt out. i have only had it out once and that was to put in gene's brass barrel washers and i know i didn't overtighten it,is hard enough to just get tight. i think i grabed the loctight sleeve retainer instead of the blue locktight but im just not shure. any ideas how to get it out. im not against a new compression tube but would rather not buy on. i tried heat and that didn't even work
thanks dave

Once after trying everything I had, I used a cordless impact driver to safely remove a stuck breech bolt.
Good luck. Maybe put some penetrating oil like Liquid Wrench on the thread side and try to let it soak in.
Happy Shooting!!!!

1+ on the penetrating oil. It can't hurt and it may help. You might heat it up again (not too hot), so that the expansion will help the penetrating oil work. Just a thought.

If you used sleeve retaining compound, good luck. You may have to drill the bolt out.

If you used sleeve retainer it is almost impossible to un due.
I it used once to hold a brg race in a gear box 10 years latter i had to heat it cherry red to get it out.

Fingernail polish remover works great on super glue, might work on this too.

If you used the regular loc-tit try breaking the barrel open then getting after the bolt. I've noticed that breaking the barrel open and even taking the cocking foot out to let the barrel drop more takes some tension off that area. Ed

This may sound simple but did you loosen the little grub screw that holds the bolt from turning? I know I forgot once and could not remove my pivot bolt. Just something to check.

Probably better yet, just some straight acetone. As far as I know, fingernail polish remover is diluted acetone. I've bought straight acetone at HD and other hardware stores.

polish remover has acetone as the primary ingredient, but also contains water

Muppit,
If you have to replace the compression tube you could upgrade to the Trail NP compression tube with weaver rails - Part # BT9M22-02.00 for $49.66 plus $4 shipping from Crosman. See my post on my Titan GP Upgrade with Weaver Rails at

tried to drill it out this morning, set the compression tube i my drill press and tried to drill it several times and all i got was a bunch dull bits out of it. did not even make a mark on the bolt. i may have to sacrifice the tube just to get the washers and live jam parts out.

If the screw has not been destroyed you can try a poor mans impact driver. Thats what we called it. Basically its a tool you put impact grade screw driver bit on and smack it with a dead blow hammer and small sledge. When you hit it the bit is driven into the screw and twists at the same time. Heat it and smack the wet out of it. The harder you hit the more downward pressure to keep it from stripping the screw head and the more torque it puts on the screw.
Also the dewalt crosspoint drill bits are harder than most. If you slow down the drill press to reduce heat use oil and steady pressure you might not eat up the bits. Alot of drill presses you can adjust the belts to different pullys inside the housing so you can slow then down.

used my impact driver as well and kept breaking my screw driver bits. i'm done with it sacrifices the tube to save my live jam and barrel washers. i guess i will be doing a crosman order for a new tube and a new pivot bolt life goes on anyway. took the g1 extreme out this morning hunting for the first time in a year and a half, not that its shooting very well i will talk about that someware else though. so im not uot of hunting season anyway. thnks folks BUT BE WARNED DO NOT USE SLEEVE RETAINER TO KEEP YOUR BOLTS TIGHT. IT DONT COME OUT!!!!!!

When you get the tube and the barrel bolts. Either do it ur self or take them to a shop and have a nice deep flat head slot cut into them
That's my plan when I get my disco parts in, taking the breech screw over to austin bolt co and having them see if they have a replacement with a slotted head instead of the .50 hex head.. also a little shorter on the threads since my challenger hammer hits the breech screw

Hi
Nobody mentioned heat.
If you can get a good screwdriver in to screw, heat the area with a propane torch until a water drop sizzles. then try the screwdriver.
Good luck

tried it all till i was just exhausted of ideas. i run into bolts that are to tight all day long rust here rust there but i made the mistake of leaving the sleeve retainer in the drawer with my blue loc tight and now i'm going to buy a new compression tube. i am going to get the one for the trail np though it has a better scope mount. by the time i was done trying every idea i and everyone else came up with the pivot bolt was striped and the tube was discolored from the heat so i just cut the ear of the tube to save the barrel and the live jame and washers, the barrel may be bad but thats a guess as to my problem so i'll save it for now. thanks for the help .......dave
