Casting pellets?

Anyone ever tried casting their own pellets? Are molds available? Be kinda neat to go down to the tire store, pick up some old wheel weights, melt 'em down and pour your own pellets.

Never have cast pellets. But have cast jillions of lead bullets for pistols and rifles. Not doing it right now though. Too much trouble. I imagine casting pellets would be troublesome due to the small size and the need for a hollow base. And finding mold blocks may be a problem and expensive. If you try, wheel weights would most likly be too hard of a material for pellets. Pure lead or a mixture would be easier to work with. I mixed up various alloys using the Lyman hand book.

I make a lot of weights for fishing, including jigs, dart heads, etc. I don't think I would try making pellets. For one, lead is becoming harder to find and scrap lead is getting more expensive. Pellets are cheap enough for me, so I'll just buy them

Yeah, I figure buying them is the better option, just thought it might be neat to try casting some.

It would be fun to make some but you would have to find a mold first. I have no idea how much the mold would cost. And, it would be hard to cut the sprue off clean on such a small piece of lead. I think it would be more work and trouble than it's worth.
