Who has HW50s & HW30s?
«

I have an HW30s that I absolutely love, but it sometimes feels a little small and I would like a bit more room for my forward hand. I am looking at the HW50s as a slightly more powerful/larger gun. My question is: Will the HW50s feel as slick and smooth as the 30? My Stoegers are very effective, capable guns; but they would not be described as slick and smooth. Thanks

Love my HW30. Got one of Steve Cocoran's stocks for it. Made a huge difference for me.

The cocking effort is heavier like an R9/HW95 and they are a little buzzier than the R7 as far as spring noise because their's more spring the rifles are almost as big as the R9 as well but their a nice gun and have good power and are very accurate at least mine was! I sold mine and went to a detuned R9 and was much happier with that then the 50s JMO

The 50S is a nice sized gun with a good amount of power. However as Mark said the power to cocking effort is off. I have JM kits in my 50 and 95 and the 95 is just a little harder to cock. For the price of the 50 you could get a longer stock for your 30S or a 95.

You can leave it full power or de-tune it to 50 power level. I am thinking of replacing mine with a 57 to stay in the same power range. They are great guns just heavy on cocking effort.

IMO the design flaw in the cocking arm is what keep the 50s from being a great gun! The R9/HW95 doesn't have these issues other than that their a very good rifle, But like Jim would rather have the HW57 for a gun in this power range due to the fixed barrel and underlever system JMHO

Have had an HW30s for a few years. Love it. Have a long barreled version of the R9. (HW85, I think)
Love it. Don't have the HW50s, but want one really badly. Also want an HW80/R1.
I like just about anything HW.

Thanks for the replay Jaymo. I've found plenty of comments re. HW guns, but it seems the ones that own them are too busy shooting to write about them. If some Christmas cash finds its way into my pocket, an HW50s will find a new home soon thereafter. JPH

Hi JPH,
I don't have either the HW30 or HW50, but I do have a few other Weihrauch-made guns. I really like my R9 .20 cal. and find it shoots the most accurately of any of the guns I have. Its also the smoothest of them all in stock form, even beating out others I've self tuned. I think I got lucky and got a good one
In comparison, I barely shoot my HW80, even though its basically a bigger R9. I find the extra weight and length and cocking effort just don't do it for me. Basically, I don't really use the extra power anyway, as it sits most of the time. If it came to it, I'd probably trade it for an HW50 and end up shooting that a lot more often.
Someday I'd like to own either the HW30/50 or both to have something a little smaller and easier to handle around for plinking. I'm betting they will live up to the cliche "good things come in small packages".
I've read nothing but good things about both, so I don't think you can go wrong with either or both even!
Here's a review of most of the popular Beeman/Weihrauch guns I found on another site. Lots of good information there to better compare and contrast the guns.

I hope Santa is good to you this year and brings you something nice!

My HW85 is twangy, but accurate. I want to get it tuned after the holidays.

As you can see from my sig, I have a number of Weihrauchs.
The 30S at Johannesburg shoots at ±560fps using 8.44gr JSB pellets.
The 50S - ±720fps.
Both rifles are extremely accurate, being favourites in 10m and 25m bench-rest.
Although I have an HW57, I will never recommend this rifle. There are too many problems with the pop-up loading gate.
I say this as both a Weihrauch dealer and tuner.
30S is accurate and not hold-sensitive.
50S requires best springer technique for best results.

R7 in .20 is a dream and very accurate.
HW50s in .22 (low powered version for Canada) is a fantastic shooter at proper distances. The dealer told me it was full powered but I think he was incorrect. I don't have a chrony to check but it shoots so accurate and feels so good I just don't care what it is.

I've had an HW57 for seven years and never had a problem with it. It's just as accurate as the other four HW rifles that I own. Because of it's handy size it's my primary hunting rifle in the thick brush.
