Question about tuning M-Rod

Looking to move to the darkside this holiday season. Aiming to get an M-Rod in .22.

I'm thinking I'd like to get it tuned before having it travel all they way out here to the middle of nowhere *Hawaii*

Who does tunes? How much do they cost? What kind of performance improvements can be done?

They are really easy to tune bro. Besides, with a PCP, you are shooting for accuracy, either you already have access to a chronograph, or perhaps you should consider investing in one.  All of the info you will need is here on GTA. if you have minimal tools, like allan wrenches (hex wrenches) and a few screw drivers, you will be able to custom taylor the performance of your rifle to your specific needs. Also, the .22 barrels are notorious for having deeply cut rifling which tends to chew up softer lead and cause inaccuracies. If you are not afraid to polish the barrel with some patches and metal polish, and your not scared to follow written tuning instructions step by step, you will save yourself a ton of money,... not to mention becoming familiar with your gun. Once your are farmiliar with your rifle, you wont hesitate to fine tune anything on it. good luck bud.  Give this puppy a quick scan, maybe book mark the site, it may come in handy. take care

any adjustments made for tuning can always be put back to out of the box settings and then you can start over with a clean slate so to speak

I am considering hitting up Mike, if I'm going to drop that dough, I am not going to bat an eye at having a pro get her done "right"

It may come with a nice tune right out of the box, you can fiddle with the fill pressure a bit and get what you need. They come from the factory set up for 2500 psi but you may find that 2800 or 2700 works good for the
factory set up. I tuned both my.177 & .22 and it was kinda fun to do. I set my .22 for a 2000 psi fill and shoot
down to 1300 psi and it is very back yard friendly as far as noise goes and it still packs a punch.

If you go with a tuner,Mike is hard to beat-he put an L/W barrel on mine and tuned it specifically for the Jsb 15.9's I like and with the 30" airtube, I'm getting +50 shots @ 930fps. and stupid accurate-here's 4 shots @ 90 yds with stiff wind .430 c-tc. He's also doing.25's now and getting 32 shots out of them

That thread is what got me interested in having the gun tuned in the first place.

I could count my luck and hope I get a solid gun, but I would much rather just put the cash forward and have it done RIGHT.

I like figuring out my guns, but some times I like to have a chance to work on MY SHOOTING. Not sitting there playing "clue" with my AG because it got some strange daddy issue it picked up in the factory

as to the M-Rod out of the factory the gun is not I repeat Not tuned at the factory it is assembled
then shot over a chrony 22 cal must hit 840 and if it does it goes out the door if not they open the metering screw or put more hammer pressure depends on who is testing the gun this info is directly from crosman.

as to power tune only 275.00

at the moment My 25 is getting 32 shots at average of 830 fps and 47 fpe with H&N 31.02 grn.
have another shooting 24 shots 26.23 gr H&N at 990 fps average and 57 fpe
we have had the gun shoot 80 fpe with 31.02 H&N at 1078 fps but it only got 2 shots in that range
which is not my goal we have a new valve that will hopefully get it at that power for 32 shots
but not their yet.

as to tuning your own gun Yeah its great fun if you are realistic but I don't think I have read anything on any site out their that actually offers a true way to get the most out of the M-Rod and to add gas to the fire most embellish their accomplishments that is why we post videos on u tube

Our guns are the most accurate and powerful shooters available we consistently get sub 1/2" groups at 90 to 100 yards our power levels are matched with shot counts that no one else has come close to. In short every gun is designed to shoot the way you order it or better by that I mean our last customer asked for a 25 cal to shoot 44 fpe with 31.02 Kodiak's for 5 shots with less than a 25 fps spread he got a gun that shoots 32 shots at 47 fpe with a 19 fps spread.

Just a thought, Mike.... If your .25 cal MRod is getting 32 shots at 47 FPE = 1504 FPE total.... or 24 shots at 57 FPE = 1368 FPE total.... how do you hope to get 32 shots at 80 FPE = 2560 FPE total with just a valve change?.... In my experience, as you increase the power, the air usage goes up and the efficiency goes down.... Even if you were able to maintain the 1368 FPE that works out to 17 shots.... Now it would be quite an achievement to get even that many.... and I sincerely wish you all the best.... but IMO you're being just a bit optimistic on shot count without increasing the volume of the air reservoir further....

So the 275 will get you 50+FPE and the 1/2 groups at 100 yards, or just the power?

It would be more, because the LW barrel and addons would cost extra.

That level of performance out of a AG is not going to come cheap... look at the factory offerings for precision airguns like FX. Things are nearly all over a grand out of the box.

those .25 have good barrels from factory. most claim really amazing accuracy. as far as tuning for more power and a decent curve, you could do that yourself.

isnt the 25 mrod barrels from gander mountain or soemthing mountain.. like almost on par if not on par with lw...
