SG nitro venom

hello. trying to learn more about this particular gun. the nitro venom sold exclusively by sportsmans guide with the fully shrouded barrel. there does not seem to be a whole lot of discussion about the specific rifle on the GTA site. is the action/powerplant on this gun the same as the benji trail? if so, could i just apply any info pertaining to that gun to the venom? if not, what are the differences? is it even a close match? i am rather new to the forum, so pardon any uneducated questions. I am looking to switch to a remington summit stock (if i can find one, crosman no longer makes these stocks), install new trigger, etc., and would appreciate any advice given.

These guns are clones off the Gamo 440 design, the Chinese version is the B18/B19 which is basically the same rifle you have these and most of the Crosman rifles in the Quest, Titan, Benji Trail series , Storm and many others! for inexpensive rifles many seem to like them, their are tons of parts out there to tune one up or just change it to one of the other designs out there you can gas ram them or just use a spring set up! I have one of these. Yes, it's a Trail in a Phantom stock per Gene, who has one. I have mine in a Trail AW stock, along with a gold trigger, GRS kit and brass washer kit. I have a JM small apex piston seal and a jar of moly lube for a rainy day, and I get bored with pumping my pcp's.

thanks for the info, sounds like a nice setup on your venom. i would prefer to have a wood stock instead of the synthetic, and really like the summit. so when i order the trigger and grs kit i should just order the ones for the trail?  thanks for your help.

I've had one for over a year now and I love mine.  I installed a GRT trigger and installed a wooden "summit" stock and the rifle is even better.  I did a completer review of the rifle, do a search in the "Review Gate".  I've used mine to take numerous small game and even a few woodchucks.

Well guys my .22 Nitro Venom has kicked the bucket...the cocking arm linkage is bending and taking chunks out of the stock like the other guy's Venom here.  Did it after 750 pellets.

Went back and found this in the search engine in the crosman gate.

Warranty time, I read somewhere (sorry can't remember which forum, maybe the GTA) that Croasman has had very many returns with this same issue so they won't be surprised to get another one and should make good NQA.

Our own brother "longislandhunter" has one that he has restocked with the Remington Summit stock and has used it very successfully in game hunting. Here is a pic he posted of it:

While our guns are a bit of a hybrid of existing proven parts, the newer specifically designed production namesake seems to be prone to a malfunction.

The ram itself is untweakable, but everything else is treated the same as a springer regarding performance massaging. Read up and ask about specific areas of interest.

Was discussing this rifle with the folks at Crosman today and they said that there was NO shrouded version of the 'Nitro Venom' ever made. I sent them the web address supplied in this quote and they got back to me and said that nowhere in this ad are the words 'Nitro Venom' used. I looked and they are right. It appears that we have made an erroneous assumption here.

I also asked Crosman about the statement that they were no longer making the Summit stocks and they also stated that was untrue. They have a new batch of the stocks arriving soon that can be purchased.

after reading your post, i decided to investigate this issue also. this gun was labeled nitro venom as stated on my original receipt from november 2010. there were way too many references to this gun with this name in other posts on the gta website to be a coincidence. here is a link to crosmans owners manual showing it was indeed named "nitro venom". no wrong assumptions were made by anyone on this site, crosman simply changed the name. why? i don't know.

as far as the summit stocks go i talked to a gal at crosman on 11/30 and 12/5 and was told i would have to wait for a warranty stock to become available as they were soon to stop production of the summit rifle, and none were available again, i don't know why different answers/explanations were given.  any thoughts?

Ad says Venom Nitro, not Nitro Venom. But what would us silly, assuming OWNERS of that particular model know?

It's a Trail action in a Phantom stock with a cool name that they decided to move forward with in a different platform, thus creating a confusing lineage.

OK! Guess I'll have to take some heat for so many misunderstandings. Thanks to all who contributed to getting this straightened out. I took all the inputs and sent my Crosman rep an email and your thoughts and also gave him the web address of this posting. Here is his response to me:

LOL, here is the story on the gun.  The gun was made for Sportsman's Guide, like stated on the forum similar to the trail.  When it came time to release a new gun, Nitro Venom Dusk, from what I was told everyone loved the name Venom so they added "Dusk" and changed some small details (muzzle break, stock).  I'm not sure why it did not have a different name all together.  Trust me I was very confused as I have never actually see the Venom Nitro until you sent me a link, nice gun.  I thought we only made the trail series with the shroud.  Seems like sometimes "custom" guns for a store by pass some of us or maybe I was sick that day.     Either way I was wrong and sorry for the confusion.  Guess we all learn something new each day.  As for the stocks, yes you will still be able to get them.  Like I said we should have 50 in about a month  +/-, depending on how fast the shipment get's here.  Once again sorry everyone for the confusion I was wrong on this one.

Makes sense, as even car salespeople aren't privy to every single special edition put out by the mfg/production line unless they lay eyes on it or somebody directly inquires about it.
