Benjamin Trail XL 725 review

I was just on the straightshooter site and saw they have reviews of all the Trail series Benjamins including the Trail NP (which they mistakenly call the Trail NP 1100 even though they say it has an advertised speed of 950 FPS):

The velocity test results show the Trail NP to max out at 20 FPE while the XL 1500 has up to 23 FPE, the XL 1100 and XL 725 have around 26 FPE.  I find it interesting that the XL 725 still has 16 FPE at 50 yards shooting 25.4 grain JSB Exact kings.

I have shot both my xls through the chrony several times and seems theres and mine are different numbers the xl1100  which Ed(454 big block) now owns  was shooting a average of around 925 with cphp and  the xl1500 it was way more than they are getting with rws hollow points around 1275 fps and crossman ultra mags at 1075 fps makes me wonder if maybe my chrony is wrong?? But needless to say they are both very hard hitters and fine shooters for some who has the patience to master for sure not a ag for the newbi. Thanks David

I still don't get the appeal of the .25's in a springer/gas ram.  At 50 yards, only one .25 pellet was still putting out 16 fpe, but from the XL1100, there were 4 .22 pellets still putting out 14-15 fpe.  What do you gain from the .25's when fpe isn't any higher, the trajectory is worse, pellets are more expensive and harder to find?

I don't have a .25 in  my collection, but if/when I do get one I'll be going the PCP route as in my mind the PCP just seems more well suited.

I too think the .25's are better suited to the PCP's, but when the barrels are out next year as parts, I plan to get one for my 1100XL, for a few bucks, why not? I do think that the larger diameter, given similar fpe, round might well deliver more shock at the target.

Hey Dave,
My XL1500 is averaging 975 with Crosman Ultra Mags so you're about 100 fps higher than me.  I have about 1,000 rounds through mine.  Installing my new seal may change it a bit though.

Dave, my chrony numbers are also higher by about 50 FPS than the ones posted for the Trail NP and the NPSS by the straightshooters team. I figured it's the warm dense air here where I live that gives me better results.
