I just got a Vevor 4-stage pump. When setting up, they have a plug to insert in the fill line so you can test-pump the unit. Can't get past 3000 psi; I think I would have to gain at least another 100 lbs. to have enough weight to push the pump handle further to increase pressure beyond that. Any like experiences or am I doing something wrong??

GerryR,
A new hand pump does need to be tested if it will hold air, but you don't need to fill to 3000 for a test. Start by filling to 1000 - 1500 PSI and letting it sit for +5 minutes to see if the air pressure will hold. If it holds then it is good. I have a 3 stage and a 4 stage Hand pump both of different brands.

I have several "budget" (<$50) HPA hand pumps. They are all 3 stage and all require me to use MOST of my 190lbs during the end of the downstroke to reach 3000psi. Filling rifles tubes (180cc-255cc) several times a shooting session is a WORKOUT! I don't have any rifles or bottles that are rated for higher pressure.
The 4 stage hand pumps are advertised to go to 4500psi so I assume(?) I'd need my 190lbs for 4500psi and only 190*2/3=127lbs for 3000psi?
In reality I DOUBT the pumping forces scale like that, but I'd still EXPECT I could reach 4500 psi (if pump is rated 4500psi) using my 190lbs.
I'm getting old but still get 5 days of good exercise working for a local brewery (lifting kegs NOT drinking pints;-)
If you weight LESS than 190 lbs I think hand pumping to 4500 will be difficult.
FWIW I found that EVERY SINGLE CONNECTION & GAUGE PORT from my hand pump to the rifle must be PERFECTLY SEALED. The smallest leak can prevent pumping to or above 3000psi.
While I CAN still hand pump those rifles I now prefer to use a $150 electric HP compressor. It allows more enjoyable and less stressful shooting sessions. I get enough exercise at work so relaxed target practice and leisure hunting/pesting is preferred ;-)

I just need to reach 3600 psi for my rifle, but I doubt I can reach that; I'm 170 lbs. and I can barely get to 3000 psi. I believe an electric pump is on the horizon!

GerryR,
I am 145 lbs and I can fill past 3000 PSI in all the PCP air rifles I have. When the pressure gets higher I start using my weight, first fully extend arms down then bending my knees to complete the down stroke. With a 4 stage hand pump and a 3600 PSI limit you should be able to reach.
I have had my eye on a 165$ small compressor, but for now I'll stay with hand pumping.

Gerry I have a Crosman branded 3-stages hand pump, it's hard to get to 3000 psi, and REALLY a workout to get to 4500. I'm 170 lbs, and I use the same method as Nukall856 past 3000.
