where to get heavy tar

Reading thru Charlies Lube guide he mentions Heavy Tar. Any time I search it I get all kinds of grease, tar removers ect.. But nothing called Heavy Tar. I realize That was written a long time ago and Charlie is gone now. Is this an item that gone bye-bye or known under another name ? Where can I get it ?
TIA
Rick

Yes ARH ..
use VERY sparingly, as it will damp vibrations well it also makes for a temp sensitive springer. slower when cold, faster as it warms up.
* It was used as a crutch in lieu of having correct fitted spring guides, piston liners etc .... A Old School product.

I suspected that might be the case. My guns will be used for small game and our squirrel season runs from memorial day to Feb 15, so I might be out in either extreme temp wise.
Any suggestions what else to use or maybe I will try the plastic sleeve trick I read on here somewhere. I work in a machineshop, so making a better fitting guide and tophat are no big deal.

Well then, duh! Do that. Delrin is a pretty good material. I used to make the top hat a fairly tight fit into spring. The guide maybe 0.002/3" under spring, but touching at points is ok, it expands when compressed. You'll get a better result than with tar, as Scott mentioned. Less messy too. There's much more to a good tune, but better fitting guides will go a long way towards making it a more pleasant, accurate shooter.
You didn't mention which gun?

I caught a good sale on the Hatsan re-furb Airtacts, but couldn't decide which. At the price, I got one in each caliber. 177, 22 and 25 for about what I would have to pay at BassPro for just one with tax.

I used that YEARS ago but found that the "twang dampening" seemed to "wear off" with use plus the fact that when it was applied thick enough to "kill twang" it reduced the velocity (especially if it got on the sides of the piston seal).
My solution to the twang/vibration of my HW95/Beeman R9 was to either buy an aftermarket spring kit with a tight spring guide or simply lathe turn my own tight fitting guide & top hat from Delrin rod.........
