Ghost Train

Years ago my wife and I were on a trip. And we spent the night in an old small Motel 8 in Johnson City Tennessee. We had parked around back in a tiny parking lot, there was a hedge of shrubs that kind of in closed the parking lot. That night as we slept, a train went by just on the other side of the shrubs. A passenger train because as it roared by there was flashes of light from the train windows and the usual train sounds. The next morning I went out into the parking lot and out of curiosity went through the hedge of shrubs to see the tracks. There was nothing there, no tracks.

They make some serious moonshine in that neck of the woods. If they don't pour off the heads it can make you hallucinate.

My favorite “ghost train” was when my wife added a train whistle as someone’s ring tone to her phone and that person called just as someone crossed the tracks beside us so that their head lights filled our car as the phone rang when I was driving late at night. I don’t know what rate my heart was beating before I figured out what was happening but for a second or two I was convinced we were about to be run over by a train that was off the tracks.
