Hatsan 1000s Striker spring to gas ram ?

Anyone have recommendations on what and where to get parts for this ?

Hatsan USA will sell you most parts. You need a different end cap and a gas ram.  Most folks do it the other way around since the Vortex ram is less than reliable. I had a .25 cal spring powered Striker that was as smooth as a ram.

The Striker might be a good candidate for a Crosman gas ram.

Yeah my gas ram mod 87 ended up going out on me, but the Benjamin Trail NP I gave to my dad is still going, and I shot the snot out of it before I got the 87..
This 1000s does 950 fps with Crosman hp... shoots strong just has a bad twang of the spring.
Just recently resealed it and put moly grease on the spring.. should I stop being a baby and keep it as is.. never was a tight shooter but I never tried many pellets in it either.
Fixed the creeping scope mount, sighted it back in and guess after shooting the pumpers I now notice the twang alot more.

Well after some reading I came across people making ptfe sleeves, preloading the spring, making the piston lighter and talk about a short stroke mod ? Got to look that one up.
Mine has a plastic spring guide but it's short.

Does the sleeve go around the spring or the piston ? A lighter piston would improve the lock time but would it negatively effect having enough momentum  ?
I seen something about polishing the spring ends.. what does that do ?

The simplest "conversion" is a Vortex air spring from Hatsan. It should go into a Striker/Edge rifle with the same end-plug you have in the coil spring model.
If available the Vortex air spring for that rifle should be in the $40 range plus S&H.

Hatsan rifles with the Quattro trigger can have 2 different end-plugs. Vortex+Quattro need a 2 hole end-plug. Coilspring+Quattro need a 3 hole end-plug.
Striker/Edge does not have a Quattro trigger so there should only be one style end-plug. (Hatsan calls them "tail-plugs".)

You can install a Crosman NP1 gas spring (used to be ~$10 from Crosman parts dept) into a Striker/Edge but YOU need to make a custom centering spacer out of a hard plastic or aluminum. An NP2 gas spring should also work but the centering spacer length may need to change slightly. I've tried the Vortex to NP1 conversion with a DIY spacer and it works fine.

I later removed the NP1 and DIY spacer and sent them to a GTA member to repair his Edge Vortex. I then repaired MY dead Vortex Edge using a Crosman coil spring, a custom preload spacer, and my own custom spring guide. That combo reduced the muzzle energy a few ft-lbs under factory spec but the shot cycle is sweet and accuracy is good. I'm leaving it right there.

ptfe sleeves = NO, not enough space between spring and piston and will do nothing positive for this rifle.

preloading the spring MORE (already 2.5" - 3") = NO, spring is almost coil-bound and rifle is near maximum fpe already.

lighter piston = NO, piston MASS is critical part of this rifle design and is NEEDED to transfer spring energy to air to pellet.

short stroke = NO, way too much effort to reduce muzzle energy on this rifle. Cut coils if you MUST HAVE lower muzzle energy.

polising spring ends = MAYBE, coil springs get "fatter" and ROTATE as they are compressed. They get "skinnier" and ROTATE the other direction when relaxed. Polishing the spring ends allows the spring to rotate more freely with less friction. I do put a very fine finish on my coil ends but I have NEVER in over 100 springers been able to actually feel any difference between before & after polishing.

All of the above, and buttoned piston skirts, are tricks used to improve the SHOT CYCLE and accuracy on CERTAIN OTHER models of ~12ft-lb springers.

The Striker/Edge rifle does not NEED any of these refinements.

HOWEVER, the Striker/Edge springers do have a totally wimpy short loose do-nothing plastic spring guide. They can be really "buzzy" right out of the box. Simply adding a full length SNUG fitting spring guide (and a little high quality tacky grease on the guide) transforms the rifle so it FEELS like it is powered by an Air spring or a Gas spring.

488 polymer disc - remove - shredded and useless in most of the refurbs I've repaired.
504 steel top hat - remove - reduces moving mass slightly BUT makes space for a full length full support spring guide.
489 steel washer - save - spring rotation bearing washer, use on new spring guide.
490 polymer washer - save - spacer & shock absorber, use on new spring guide.
498 plastic spring guide - remove - too short and too loose to do anything useful.

The spring guide I make for the Mod95 is exactly the same as the one I put in my Striker/Edge rifles.

Yes most of those mods was for a UK .25 cal I was reading about.
Thank you for your knowledge on this. Very helpful to have someone who has been there done that.
I'm definitely lacking when it comes to break barrel guns.. no one ever stops learning, but it sure helps to get a jump start ..

This is the spring length sticking out of the tube, and also parts as they came out of the gun, the plastic guide is a snug fit but the steel one on the other end isn't, I will make a replacement that fits better out of delrin when it comes in..
