Benjamin Sheridan Model 397 PA, .177 rifle rear sight installation ??

Looking for help with installing a rear (open) sight on the above mentioned rifle.  Sight snaps onto the barrel, but way loose and slides up & down the barrel !!  Is there a secret to tightening the sight as to snug it to the barrel.  Is there a special tool for this or can it be tightened with vice grips, etc.?  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get it installed to be able to shoot it.  Also considering installing a scope if I cannot use the rear sight.  Any suggestions ??  Thank You, BH

Welcome!  There should be 2 inserts or wedges holding the rear site in place, one on each side.  If they are missing, not much you can do.  Except; get a peep site for it instead.  Williams makes one specifically for that rifle, model 5DSH;

Screws into the two little holes on the right side of the loading port.  Better site and trouble free.  Again, welcome, and please come back and tell us how it turns out.

Drill and tap one side of the sight for some set screws. The original sight can cause the barrel to pump tube to separate.
