I've got pin punches, rollpin punches, a heavy c-clamp, a vise, and now an arbor press. I find them all lacking in one way or another.

I suspect this issue comes up more times than most with older (vintage) airguns, stuck or stubborn pins, or simply because you don't want to be ham-fisted on a one of a kind antique.

How do YOU get a roll pin out that's either stuck or just doesn't want to budge?

Do you have a favorite tool?

Good thread.  Those pins can be a pain in the butt.

I found that the motorcycle chain breaker I got at Cycle Gear years ago works very well.

Here it is with an old 760 that I call Tetanus.  I even found dead bugs inside it.

I have used this for awhile. If you hold your mouth right you can even push the pin back in with it.

There's a difference between roll pins and spring pins. Roll pins are a flat sheet of metal rolled into a pin with a solid center. Spring pins are like a tube with a slot cut in it. To get spring pins out I have a drift that one end is turned down to fit inside the pin, the other end is just slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the pin. I insert the drift and tap the pin out, and use the drift to hold the pin to tap it back in.

Maybe I've been lucky, because I have had zero problems using my WILDE spring roll pin punches and my GRACE 8oz brass hammer.
I just spray a little penetrating oil on the pins of necessary, and haven't had one that wouldn't come out.

 I have no issues knocking the pins out with a hammer and punch. I may have been the one to suggest the motorcycle roller chain breaker, for those with less experience as a possible option.

Part of the escalation in difficulty I've had with multiple cycles was impatience on my part. Sometimes I start trying before I've oiled it up    (perfect blooper thread entry! )

At any rate, once you do something dumb and the task gets harder, the tools and suggestions being made here get really helpful 

I've ordered a chain breaker off Amazon, but seen the HFS one suggested before. Not all chain breaker designs are created equal I'm sure, so we'll see...

I'm sure others here have tricks of their own!
