Tinkering Has it's Limits (Rattling On)

It seems I've amassed a sizable collection of needy airguns to stave off retirement boredom.

I'm betting most of you posting this gate are into tinkering. Any advice on what repairs are best left for a professional?

As I learn new things, I can go back and work on past projects that now I see could be improved.

What should be left to professionals will vary depending on your tools and capabilities.

For me, machine work. If I can’t do with a file or tiny grinder, then it will need to go to some who can do that.

Anything that can’t be done with a dremel!!

If I don't have access to the right tool for the job then I'll ask someone with the tool and skill for help. Right now I'm wishing I had a metal lathe. I don't think there's anything I wouldn't attempt.

I too have been thinking about getting a lathe. Issue is cost, the lathe not so much, but tooling...

Anything that requires a lathe and the skills to use it if you don't have these 2 things ( I don't)

Soldering of Benjamin and or Sheridan barrels/ tubes.

Beyond that everything else is just a matter of your skills, good quality tools, and the kind of results you're looking to get.

I'm in a similar situation of accumulating needy AGs and PBs to stave off retirement boredom.   I haven't yet needed to bring any gun to a professional for repair work but I'm not saying that I don't have guns that I haven't been able to fix.   My solution has been to just keep accumulating needy guns so there's always something waiting that I can fix.   The few guns I haven't been able to fix just stay in the queue a little or a lot longer.  Maybe I'll be able to fix them someday or maybe not.

Good call!!  I have done this, but my results are not always attractive.  So, I used to refer people to others, but all of my guys have died or retired!  And it's hard to send folks to MacMurray, at least until he gets his business back together.  It would be great if someone here would learn to do it, maybe someone with a sheetmetal or welding background.
