Hi all,
I have a Hatsan Flashpup .22 cal. that I have had poor accuracy with. I contacted Hatsan and got a new replacement barrel a while back. I installed the barrel and sighted the gun in. The accuracy was not really that great. I tried a bunch of pellets but the accuracy was around 1.5" at 30 yards. That was the best I could do with JSB 18.13 pellets. Being busy with life and having many other gun to shoot I figured I would eventually get around to trying many other pellets in the gun and it would be accurate. I was wrong I never achieved decent accuracy no matter what pellet I tried. I ended up getting a bore scope. When I inspected the original barrel and the replacement barrels they were both messed up in the leade area. There were tool marks and metal sticking up higher than the rifling. This was no doubt damaging the pellet while loading. I have the option of taking pictures through the bore scope on my phone. I sent the pics of the damage inside the bore of the original barrel and the replacement barrel to Hatsan. I politely requested a replacement barrel for the original replacement barrel. I know it was a little over a year since I received the original replacement barrel but the pics prove I was sold a gun with the origional barrel defective and the replacement barrel defective from the get go. I hoped Hatsan would make it right and send me a good replacement barrel.
Sadly Hatsan was very slow to respond. It took them close to 3 weeks to respond. All I was told was Hatsan has no barrels available at this time. That was all they told me. I replied back right away asking when a decent barrel would be available. I have had no response from Hatsan for a few weeks. Thanks Hatsan what am I supposed to do? I don't know what's going on at Hatsan but I feel like they are blowing me off? I own 5 of their rifles and this is how they treat the folks that support them. Even if I would have tried much sooner to get the gun to shoot accurately it's no guarantee Hatsan would have been of any help.
Sorry about being long winded. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get a decent replacement barrel for my Flashpup? I love the gun but this really bugs me and I'm not going to pawn it off on someone else. Thanks for your ears.

Hatsan is the "bargain basement" of airgun manufacturers. That's why I'm a big FAN of their products. Hatsan parts/service response time is always glacial for me but eventually I gets the parts I ordered.
My suggestions:
1) Try to polish out the port burr.
2) Check the crown and remove any burrs there as well.
3) PUSH a pellet through the bore to check pellet fit.
A "good barrel" has a little resistance pushing past the lead, some uniform small resistance down the bore, then maybe a little more resistance NEAR the muzzle indicating a choke. Rifling marks on the pushed pellet should be clean. Any other pellet distortion indicates there is still a burr at the port or the crown.
A "free fall" barrel after the lead, where the pellet basically FALLS OUT of the bore with no effort, is a "bad" barrel. I'd still try shooting the rifle but whatever the accuracy is at that point is "as good as it gets". Nothing you can do, aside from a barrel swap, will improve accuracy.
I am disappointed that Hatsan quality seems to be declining, but I'm still a fan of their low cost rifles because I've been able to repair all the defects (so far).

Michael, I did push a pellet down both barrels. Both barrels snagged pellets at the beginning then had loose then rough areas. Both barrels had absolutely no choke. My other 4 hatsan rifles had a choke at the end of their barrels. I did go after the rough areas with JB bore cleaner but there was little help to the accuracy. At times I can get 3 pellets to touch at 30 yards but the gun will quickly reward me with many fliers. It's a huge disappointment having this gun and not getting any customer support from Hatsan. I'll give the barrel another go with the JB bore cleaner but I'm not expecting much. The barrels are simply crapola and I need a new decent replacement barrel. I wonder where the QC in at Hatsan?
