Silicon oil/grease for O-Rings

Find the book for a bottle air rifle I am shooting says when you replace after removal to put a small amount of Silicon Oil on the area between the two O-rings.
Have read places it is a good practice when replacing O-rings as well.

Silicone Grease, or the liquid where small drops are the norm?

I know not to use petroleum based oils on them and have both types of Silicone to use.

I generally use Silicone GREASE on static positions and @ 90wt Silicone OIL on dynamic positions.

If you have a "Hobby Shop" local.. look there for silicon oil used in R/C car shock absorbers...

Silicone grease for static seals. Its high viscosity aids assembly and helps minimize the risk of damage during installation.

Silicone oil for dynamic seals. Generally the only place that applies in a typical PCP is the bolt or breech O-ring, and to a lesser extent the check valve O-ring. Otherwise it’s mostly for high pressure pumps.

Silicone oil is sold inexpensively as "silicone shock oil" for RC cars or as treadmill lubricant. Silicone grease is sold inexpensively as automotive dielectric grease.

The last 100% silicone oil I bought was $5 for 1.5 ounces.  I got it at Michaels in the paint and supplies department.

PCP regulators "On the Spool O-rings" is a dynamic position as well

  I use 30w Silicone Shock oil on my PCP pump rod about once a month or so.  I just unscrew the top of the pump and oil the rod.  On assembly seals and O rings use the grease.  My China pump gets used weekly on my 3 Disco tube build guns, a .177, .22, & .25cal. Neither pump nor tubes have had any problems after over 5 years.  I do put a drop of the oil in the fill fitting occasionally when pumping to help protect the inside of the Disco tubes from leaks and corrosion.  I only pump inside a climate-controlled shop and I think that helps keep moisture out of the pump or gun.

Is it like this? 90% ?  I'm sure there are worse things to use, but what's the other 10% and do you want it in your gun or under high pressures?   100% is out there, I'd find some, leave this to plumbing applications.

I use silicone dieletric grease as an assembly lube.  My Crosman 3622 came with a 4oz. bottle of Crosman's silicone oil which I suspect it will take me several years to go through.

IMO silicone grease or oil is the best choice for any O-ring or seal lubrication, PCP, springer, or pumper.

You can get 100% silicone grease ("food grade") from dive shops. I used it when installing a new o-ring for a pistol breech.

I use SuperLube products -- silicone o-ring grease #56204 and silicone oil (for manual pump) #56104.

I use Superlube for the oil (a few drops in my Nomad II compressor every 5 fills) and 4LifetimeLines Multi-Purpose Silicone Grease (8 oz Tube) for the o-rings and such.
