397PA forend pump handle roll pins..one sided

I don't know much about the older versions, but my newer '97 has pins that only go in from one side, through the linkage and then stops somewhere in the other lobe of wood not like the Sheridan that passes from one side to the other, allowing drifting the pin from either side straight thru.

 My linkage is a little tweaked from a previous owner that got a little western and some rainy day I may investigate and try to straighten it up a bit. Question I have is how do you go about removing the pins since they don't pass from one side to the other?

I drilled through the inside of the pins to the other side.
I then could push the pins back out the first side.
After finishing the work and putting it back together, I filled all four open holes with flathead brass screws.

The manufacturer simply did not design for clean easy removal.   Factory taps the pin in and sends the rifle out the door.   What a difference using a longer drill bit would have made.
